Trudeau is set to start handing out some cash to Canadian families. GST credit is increasing to help combat inflationary pressures right now and apparently they will also be giving families earning under $90,000 a dental benefit for kids for the next two years. The dental benefit is a stop gap measure and is $650 per child. Details are not yet available so I don't know if this will be a tax credit or an actual payment from the government at some point.

I for one hope he clings to power. Only to watch all the stories they surpessed all these years, be "leaked" to the press. Can only imagine what shenanigans buddy has been up to that have required discrete clean up.

With interest rates where they are and ascending, with inflation bubbling and with over 70% of the voting population being home owners, being a former head of the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England might not have the same electoral currency with the masses in a couple of years. Especially if many people's home equities get slaughtered and the economy tightens in the aftermath of these rate increases.
Sure Pollivere would sound really dumb if this debate were held at the Economic Club of Canada or on Bay Street, but the venue will be digital and on the devices of the general populace. A Carney candidacy could play right into PP's themes like economic gatekeepers, Justinflation, and the like.

I think Carney would make a good PM. But like Cowboy89 says, he’d get roasted in an election campaign. It would be Ignatieff redux.

It would be interesting to see just how much corruption has gone on behind the scenes that we haven't been privy to. Easily the most corrupt reign of any PM in recent history.

You have to be quite low income to get a GST credit I doubt those guys are going to be out spending like drunken sailors.
The dental benefit - would depend on how it works. If its a tax credit like a medical benefit - its not going to be inflationary. If you are just cutting people cheques with no proof they are using it for dental care - then maybe.

Probably not but we can spend our way into providing dental care for children in lower income families.

Actually lower income people are vastly more likely to spend 100% of new money they receive than higher income people (who might top up RRSPs or similar savings). That isn't a value judgement, poor people have more unmet needs/wants so they're more likely to spend extra money.
So the government borrowing additional money and giving it to low income people is a very efficient way to convert capital to current spending, which is definitely inflationary. That doesn't make it the wrong thing to do necessarily, because poor people are more harmed by inflation than anyone else.

I saw it reported yesterday, although I don't know if it actually official, but the families that qualify will have to submit proof of income to the government and the government will provide an "insurance voucher" which will be then given to the dental office and the office will direct bill the government based on that "insurance voucher."

Feels to me like he's faced the most scrutiny by far with social media being so dominant these days. I don't think it will be much better for the next PM either. I don't care about Trudeau one way or another but I think we just hear about way more things, in more detail than ever before.

The dental offices will be the last to know about how the program will work and without a doubt the billing system will be broken when it launches anyways.

I suspect that this spending is related to deals with NDP to hang on to power. Seventy five percent of Canadians didn't vote for the NDP, and yet it's like we are being governed by them.
Also the influence of environmentalists like Gerald Butts, through his close relationship with the PM, is affecting our resource development, yet he has never run for office.
Where is are so called democracy?

You have as much hope for this program as I do. It will be a total waste of money. Alberta already has the system set up to administer this through its existing low income programs. It would be the simplest and most efficient to let the existing programs administer it (with the new income parameters) and flow the money through them. But it won't happen that way and this will end up being a colossal waste of money.

Liberals and NDP share 50.44% of the vote.
You going to complain about democracy when Conservatives form the governing party with less than 40% of the vote?
