I am basking in the glory of central A/C.
30+ and smoky can stay outside.
I chill on my patio and when I get too hot I walk inside and its like when you get into your hotel room in Mexico...gloriously cool!

So like 11am? Eventually you have to walk back out onto your patio and they heat hits you like Mexico too.

Why? Because I don’t want it to be over 30 in my house (air temperature plus baking in the sun) and I don’t want my house filled with smoke. That’s basic common sense. Saying you can’t open your windows for 9 months of the year which is why you need to open them when it’s smoky is dumb.
Though, so is “you only need AC 3 days a year.” You don’t likely need AC on any days of the year, but it would sure make things more comfortable on a lot more than 3 of them.

We don't have central AC, but I have a beefy portable unit I keep on the main floor by the kitchen window. It's good enough to keep the temperature on that floor around 26 even on the 30+ days, which I'm comfortable with. The upstairs gets quite a bit hotter, but I leave the windows open up there and by the time we go to bed in the evening it's cooled down enough to sleep comfortably with a fan on. Everyone in our house prefers temps on the hotter side though which helps, I'll take 30 degrees anyday over anything in the negatives

My lawn mower, hedge trimmer and grass trimmer - all battery. So much better than gas or running a cord.

In an east facing room where I spend most of my day at home, as soon as the sun begins to set I throw a fan into the window sill. Usually within 30 mins it starts feeling a bit cooler in the room and by the time I'm ready for bed (like 4-5 am) the room temperature is anywhere from 17-22 degrees. Perfect for sleeping.
Of course last night because of the smoke I had the fan in the window sill for no more then 10 mins before I had to remove it. The room never did get under 27 degrees. At 4 am the temperature outside was still 24. Guessing the smoke is trapping the heat and that's why it was so warm out at that time?

Yeah, yeah, its all fun and games until you have to get rid of and replace the damned battery.
I'll stick with the recycled dinosaurs for the time being.
Also my lawn care needs are minimal.

Bought a battery-powered set (Mower, strimmer, leaf blower) this spring after I burned my arm on the exhaust giving my 20 year old mower a tuneup and saying to hell with this piece of crap.
So glad I did. Not only is it more convenient, but it's so much easier now. Lighter equipment, next to no sound, just makes the job a breeze

Our deck is insanely hot, we have an awning but something like that would be sweet, only real question would be is the battery okay in high, high heat? Our deck is south-facing so it gets insanely hot.

Our patio is north facing, so not a ton of direct sun if I put it in the shadow of the house. I had it out in the sunny part for about an hour yesterday and it seemed fine.

Air quality is still a 4 but it’s nice when the sun shines in and it’s not tinted red!

Had typhoon Hinnamnor roll past the island this weekend. No landfall in Taiwan (it's got South Korea in its sights though) but we did get a substantial amount of rain with a few places in the mountains seeing 400+ mm of rain since Friday, the highest being 482mm.
Around my house, down in the city, we had about 300 mm.
For context, Calgary averages 425 mm of total precipitation a year.

It's around 30 out there right now, my room was 34.4. Had the window open, curtains open since I got up early this afternoon. I just put the fan in the window sill 10 mins ago, already dropped 1.2 degrees in this room. And the sun is still shining though it's getting low now. Once it sets it's going to feel lovely again in here. Hope the smoke doesn't get bad again tonight because I can't smell it a whole lot right now.

I could go either way on the warmer nights.
But billions dead, dying or displaced due to rising ocean levels, droughts and failed crops? Sign me up!
You gotta think big picture man. Warmer nights is small potatoes.
