we played from 6pm-11pm and it was LOUD!
the guy that hired us to come play had booked around 40 sites and it was a wild party.
what got me was they didn't book the entire camp - so all these other campers would have been up just as late as everyone at the party. to the organizer's credit, he did go around to all the other sites earlier in the day and gave them a heads up about what would be happening and invited them to join us for a night of partying (and lots did join in), but the one thought that went thru my mind was that if i had booked a spot there, it would be as an escape from everything to unwind (no cell or wifi service at all) and wouldn't be pleased with the noise.
oh and then, once we were done around 11, these guys had other speakers already setup at one of the sites and continued cranking out tunes... not as loud as our show, but still waaaaay too loud for 11pm

the pot smoke - holy - it was bad - and endless!

dogs - there were TONS of dogs there (i had been sharing Sliver stories with the guitarist as we drove to the site). my biggest takeaway with all the dogs was that the big dogs were fine.... walking everywhere and getting pats on the head. it was all the little yappy lap rats that were rather annoying - they just endlessly bark - little dog syndrome i guess?

Honestly, I would be super pissed if I was at that site. But I am old.

On the weed smell, I think it is a totally legit gear-grinder. Not illegal or the end of the world, but just a grinder. Reminds me of post Flames games. Walking out of the dome most nights it just reeks. RGMG.

Interesting situation bc-chris because the first thing that comes to my mind is whether or not that type of "concert" would be legal at a public campground. Did the guy have a permit for such an event because it seems like he should?

As one who partakes in the jazz cabbage, I'm just surprised how many people still old school smoke it these days, with so many alternative ways to do it. Agreed the smell is bad, I hate smelling like that. I vape or use edibles. Every time I smell that pungent smell it seems like a throwback to me.

That said, once the process is done and smell dissipated, I'd much rather have a bunch of high people around me rather than drunk. Drunk people are 1000 times more annoying and loud.

I’ve only smoked a couple of times in the last several years, but I always felt like not smoking a joint is missing out on the experience. Hauling off a vape pen just doesn’t feel right.

i have no clue about a permit. we were hired to come play, that's it - the rest is on the guy that set up the party... but knowing him, i kinda doubt it! ha!

People who turn off their loud diesel engines when ordering through the drive-thru, but leave them running when everyone else is trying to order.

Good call city of Calgary on closing half of downtown, including every single N-S underpass and roadway, with literally no detours set up and no police directing traffic anywhere. It appears once you’re in the core, you can’t get south of 9th at all. The entirety of DT is a parking lot. I’m pretty sure I walked from one end of DT to the other faster than any car drove it.

They could have at least set up 4th st as temp two way N/S traffic but nope.

I’m a “#### cars” kinda guy but Jesus Christ this just reeks of laziness and incompetence on the city’s part.

Yeah fair enough, I guess I could see that actually, from the perspective of someone who doesn't really do it. Feels like the real deal and the way you see it in movies/shows, so prob gives it a coolness factor.

Also for camping specifically its probably the easiest way, plus you already stink camping from campfire and no showers, so whatevs at that point. Not as cool passing around a vape or bag of special gummies. I more just get how that smell could bother people. Why does the most harmless drug have to smell so bad and be so obvious, and the more intense ones be so stealthy? Unfair...feels like it should be the other way around.

Then the gear-grinder isn’t about you.

Jesus, this is about the most asshat-ish thing I've read about in this thread in a long time. (Not directed at you bcchris).

My thoughts exactly. Imagine driving for hours only to get to your site and have to deal with this. A quick call to the rcmp would have been my first step.

You know there was a parade downtown today right? Plus construction and shuttle buses running to and from Chinook due to LRT maintenance.

Lol! I used to have a VW Camper Van that would go off like New Year's Eve fireworks if you so much as farted on it.

Move around a little in your sleep?

Every camping trip we go on have two certainties each day. Some one setting of their smoke detectors in the morning (toast is ready), and car panic alarms at night.

Oh dude...I tried man, I tried to get that thing to stop. Its what happens sometimes when you get something with an after-market alarm. Nobody is raiding your campsite, its fine, this thing didnt even have to be locked, but it locked itself!

I slept with the fob in order to be able to turn it off. This created problems of its own...

The quotes I got to remove that alarm were outrageous and the alternative was a completely incompetent individual (me) with snips, a bottle of scotch and a ludicrously vague understanding of wiring attempting to disable it.

The end result?

"Let me sing you the song of my people...."

Did you even read my post? It’s literally about the road closures for the parade. The city did a piss poor job at having any kind of traffic detours to avoid gridlock in the core. As if they didn’t even try.
