How much longer are we going to have to hear about a rebuild. It's not happening for a few years people. Enjoy the ride.

No kidding.

Replaced the 115 point left winger that walked away for nothing
Improved the D by replacing Gudbranson with Weegar
Lost Tkachuk but in turn added the best C that was on the market and gave the Flames their best C depth in like 30+ years?

Now is not the time to complain IMO

The post comes from a Sabres fan who is entering year 11 of a rebuild.

We will never purposely rebuild. Save yourself the pain and let go of that dream now.

The Flames are betting an extraordinary amount of continuing success on older players who have never played a game for them. I think the time would’ve been right to go into a rebuild.
Sutter is here now. The only sensible thing to do is to maximize the Sutter window.

Tre pulled off one of the biggest fleecings... maybe ever? Then he bolstered the team's center depth via free agency by bringing in a guy coming off a monster year and who scored a huge overtime game winner in the cup finals.

Kadri's deal will not look good in its final 2-3 years, and everyone knows that. But the window to win is now, and I applaud Flames managment for making these moves. Those complaining about the size of the contract or trying to compare it to Neal or Brouwer... really should take a step back, have some faith in the process, and wait and see how things play out. If all these contracts look bad on the team's books 5 or 6 years from now, that's when the time for the rebuild will be. Not now.

Yeah, you would think the last person to be begging for a (premature) rebuild would be a Sabres fan

The only way a rebuild would’ve had any chance of happening is if Darryl wasn’t behind the bench

Hey just because my favorite team derped their first two attempts at a rebuild doesn’t mean it’s a bad idea. After two decades of up and down play, alternating missing the playoffs and making it, and disappointing every time they do, then having two star players bolt for free agency, it would’ve been hard to call a rebuild starting this summer “premature”

But our ownership group just doesn't go for it unless it's literally forced on them. If Brad didn't secure this amazing, franchise altering trade witH Florida, he would have got a lesser deal from St. Louis or whoever and we'd be trying to make a go of it.

So the fact that we got a top pairing D-man, Huberdeau and Kadri and seem like we'll be better than last year for at least 3 years is a win from my perspective.

The Flames best wingers left but they still had good defense and a top notch goalie not to mention their 27 year old number 1C and emerging winger in Mangiapane. With Sutter out of retirement to try and win it makes a ton of sense to make the moves they did especially because they had an offer of Huberdeau+++ for Tkachuk. Monahan has not fit in under Sutter so they add the second best UFA after Johnny to deepen the most important forward position of center ice.

I think for at least next year the Flames have a top team on paper. A superstar winger, stud goalie, 3 strong 2 way centers, incredibly deep blueline, a hall of fame coach and 5 cup winners on the roster.

When you acknowledge how hard it is to win the cup, what's the next best thing? Regular season success and some playoff success I'd say.

This team has been horrid in the playoffs for most of my fandom, so that's a black mark for sure. But the recent regular season success has been pretty fun, even going back to 2015.

After all of that how can it not be a little bit fun to be a fan of this team for all the personnel related chaos. Coaches in, coaches out. Big UFA signings, huge trades. There's never a dull moment with this franchise. At a bit of an arms length its a ton of fun to watch.

Having said all that, with e recent signings of the new "core" it makes me wonder how long Sutter intends to stick around. He wants to win, and the organization is committed to going all in to try to do so. Beyond his current contract that ends this year, is he just on a "hired until you're fired" sort of deal? Or does he only intend to stick around for a certain window of time. Will be interesting. I wonder if part of his deal is to groom a replacement as well.

Interesting times ahead.

Huberdeau was only being McDavid in scoring this season...by a few points

You could rebuild for 10 years and not have the 2nd leading scorer in the league, enjoy it

I don’t think it would’ve been premature. It’s just even if the Tkachuk trade was just for picks and prospects and we didn’t sign Kadri, the team still wasn’t gonna be bad enough to land a top pick.

We’d still have a Jack Adams winning coach behind the bench, a Vezina finalist in net, a good young D group, good forwards including a selke finalist center.

You’d have to completely gut the roster to be bad enough to compete in the tank Olympics with teams like Chicago and Arizona. And the franchise realistically wasn’t gonna do that unless they were in a situation where they had no choice

The rebuild will inevitably come. Might as well enjoy the entertainment in the meantime

In other words, a rebuild would be premature

It wouldn’t have been until we got Huberdeau and Weegar…and now Kadri

Treliving’s next move is going to sell more future for another run.

Your first point is just incorrect IMO. We still had a top 5 d-core and a vezina caliber goaltender under contract... Not something that is easy to replicate.

And then on your second point on Brad trading futures: Yes and it should be. Our window is now. The whole purpose of professional sports is to try and win... I am glad we have an Ownership group that wants to win, that has hired a GM that wants to win, who hired a coach who has won and wants to win. I can't speak for all flames fans, but I have been cheering for this team for 20+ years... I just want to win!

People around here act like rebuilds are sure things... they just aren't. For every Tampa their are 3 edmonton's, arizona's and buffalo's

In 4-5 years when the Flames are still paying Kadri, Huberdeau, and likely a few other old vets lots of cash, it will force a rebuild. The Flames will have players playing at a mid-six calibre on their top lines.

But yeah, everyone should make the best of the next 4ish years....this is it. This is the team. The organization will do everything it can to compete.

And then the situation changed. New data, alter the plan. It's not that hard.

I don’t think there has been a time since I’ve followed the team that screamed go for it more than now.

Push all the chips in and lets see what happens for the next 3 or 4 years.

Finally!
