I just don't understand trading all their futures for a window, and then giving their own rentals away to acquire less "now" assets for said window.

Baffling.
Barkov and companies scored as much as a Flames
If he is with Barkov and PP1, 100 again is very possible.
Everyone on that team saw their production increased significantly

Huberdeau was their leading scorer by 27 points

9.5 seems a bit shocking at first, but it has him tied for 27th biggest cap hit in the league. That’s more than fair for what Tkachuk brings imo.
True based on last season...I seem to remember the entire fanbase freaking out about a 9M qualifying offer though.

9.5M in Florida is like 11M elsewhere too, those jerks have a massive cap advantage.

Yes and they will miss him

But that was because Barkov missed a bunch of games

Tkachuk will do well with Barkov, I have no doubt

Bennett will miss Huberdeau big time. I doubt he gets 30 this year

Thus Weegar situation is sure dragging out! I sure hope it's settled by September 1st.

Would hate to see us have to trade him.

I would be happy with Weegar at 7M or less. Don’t care about term

Anything more than that I don’t know

Rather they trade him if he wants more than 7M. Assuming the return is good

I clearly recall game one of the 2019 Colorado series, and more recently Game 1/2 of the 2022 Dallas series, where Tkachuk came out like gangbusters and finished every check like he was Micheal Ferland. But it never lasted, either because he couldn’t keep it up, he lost interest, or he got injured.

Before that, he had 66 points in 62 games, still great, but that final 20 games really pushed him from being slightly above a PPG to the 100 point player that Bill Zito thinks he is getting. Definitely an outlier.
I’m leery of guys that go on heaters at the end of the season, but don’t carry it over to the playoffs. Too easy to pad the stats against teams out of the playoffs and in relatively meaningless games. Dube had a similar finish last year.

Did it ever leak what the Flames offered Tkachuk? If they offered Johnny 10.5 mill then I’m guessing what they offered Chucky would’ve probably been similar

Probably, another reason the trade was good

Tkachuk said he was leaving. I don’t think it got to the point they offered him anything serious

How does that work? Huberdeau and Barkov didn't play together last year.

I think Tkachuk will do fine in Florida, but he will be hard pressed to ever see 100 again. Barkov is an incredible player, but he has only once played a full season, and that was four years ago. He is an 80-90 pt. centreman under normal conditions, and if he can play a full season. Tkachuk will likely not do any better than Barkov does.

Bennett will be lucky to be a 20/20 guy this year.

If he plays with Tkachuk, Tkachuk will be lucky to score 60.

If Tkachuk plays with Barkov, Bennett is going to be Calgary Bennett.

The guy spent the whole year with Huberdeau in the most offensive year since 1995-96 (3.14 goals per game in both cases) and he was nowhere close to 70 points.

He’s an average-ish NHL centre, and Florida is about to find that out.

I don’t know. The analytics guys at the Athletic have it as a top 5 contract in the league already. With the cap expected to start going up I think it’ll easily be great. Have to keep in mind it covers ages 24-32. That’s prime time for a forward.

Interesting. I am curious to know who the other four were in this top five?

Do we even know of the Flames ever tabled an offer? I’m not sure it ever got to that stage?

Well the Flames analytics were off the charts last season
Sutter, Lindholm, Markstrom, the D ect.
Gaudreau had the best +/- in 20 years or whatever

Its a top 5 contract based on last season...the whole point of the debate is that he isn't likely to be that guy moving forward.

People can say 75 points is still good intangibles and what not but if he scores 75 points people in Florida won't be thrilled. He is lucky he wasn't up for a contract after the 43 point Canadian div season.

Gaudreau is there too. I think others are McDavid, Matthews, Makar, etc. I think that there will be some revisions after this season on both Tkachuk and Gaudreau don’t prove to be 100 players except in unique circumstances.

48
49
77
61
43
104

Yet they judge the contract on 104 points and a basically perfect season with perfect coaching and line mates. I don't think it will be Nurse bad or anything but what they gave up plus the contract won't be looked back on as a good move for the Panthers IMO.

They just won the presidents trophy and a playoff round for the first time since 1996.

I believe their analysis was based on the last 3 seasons.

The article was released before the Tkachuk deal was signed, but he tweeted out Tkachuk would be in the top 5 after the deal was signed. The list was:

Makar
McAvoy
McDavid
Marchand
Gaudreau
