Maybe it's because I've worked night shift for the last few years and commonly sleep with earplugs in, but the noise aspect has never struck me as something that is that big of a deal. Especially if you chose to live somewhere near where events are commonly held

But I'm willing to admit I could be way off base here

Generally speaking I agree. But when the events are held in venues that were probably not originally intended to be festival venues (eg Fort Calgary) I'm not sure where I would stand on that.

GlobalFest seemed especially loud last night (at least I assume it was that, sounded like constant fireworks) and I'm way down in the south. I wondered how people close to that put up with it.

That's totally a fair point, I know that's the first they did it there. It seemed to work well but definitely not something you could expect ahead of time

Weddings. Is there anything more overdone in our society? They're so corny and overly formal.

I didn't have to go to one for 6 years, suddenly there's 3 this summer, and I'm playing a major role in all 3. 2 of which are out of town and in boujee locations where it's $500 hotel room night, on top of all the planning for games, speeches, etc. I've probably dropped over $2K on all this and I'm not even the one getting married

Kelowna right on the water connected to a 5 star hotel, and Banff...both on long weekends. Gorgeous locations, also very expensive. And the stag for the Banff one is in Vegas. That part will be awesome, but something's gotta give! I'm basically eating ichiban until Halloween after this haha.

Also I'm the best man again for this last one, so have had to organize all the Vegas stuff, and all the games the bridesmaids really want to do for the reception, etc etc. And I'm a very laid back, disorganized person who hates the spotlight lol. I've basically been stressing about weddings the entire summer between the 3..so close to the end!

That sucks actually. I hate when people put so much pressure on their friends for their silly parties.

God did my best man ever get off easy, no bachelor party to plan, covid, (we're looking at Wakken Germany in a year or two now, all of us are metal heads) and because of covid he couldn't make it to the wedding because he had a newborn. It was a destination wedding for my wife and I so we weren't upset when anyone couldn't make it but man, easiest best man job ever. Record audio/video for the speech and done.

My friend, what you need to acknowledge is the long-held tradition of passing around a hat for donations from the guests!

Normally those donations are for the 'Happy Couple' but hey, if its going to 'The Human Fund' nobody has to know.

Embrace your inner grifter!

It's just ridiculous.

Weddings, baby showers, gender reveals. People have taken them too far. For some it's just an effort to "outdo" what other people are doing and gloat through social media. Our society is gross.

I'm involved in some wedding #### this fall. Driving 14 hours and there may or may not be adequate bathrooms for the first couple days on the premises. People are fixating on the most meaningless/minute details already. Makes me want to get as far away from it as I possibly can lol.

People who want to tell you about their dreams. I don’t care and never will. “So, I had the weirdest dream last night” is a phrase I can’t stand hearing. Just keep it to yourself.

really? I don't mind hearing about the dream of friends and coworkers. They can be pretty hilarious.

But since you brought it up, I had a dream a few nights ago where I was parked in a lot without paying, and the security guy came to my window holding a severed head. He didn't say anything, just showed me the head.
I woke up at that point.

That's the worst. Summer is so short to start with, and now your long weekends are gone.

A good part of being old, with few friends, and no contact with extended family.
Haven't been to a wedding in probably 10 years.

I was invited to be the best man at a destination wedding and I said no. His bride-to-be called me and told me I was the only person he'd invited. I decided to go. It was one of the best weeks of my life. Got to see Rio de Janeiro and get a guided tour from someone who grew up there.

Won’t all your friends be there? Sounds like an expensive summer, but on the plus side lots of partying.

You’re also single and hate dating apps. A wedding where you play a major role is pretty much unrivalled as an opportunity to meet women. And you have three of them.

Weddings are great, as long as it’s reasonable people getting married. Those are fun events.
