CAL and Rodrigues talking about a possible contract per sources, we’ll see if anything comes from it. Few other teams in the mix as well.

I wonder if Rodrigues would want the Jarnkrok deal from Toronto.
He's 29 - so he's probably not interested in a 1 year deal. Have a bad season and now you're a 30 year old without a contract that's had one good year in your past 4.
But if you take a Jarnkrok like contract that ties up 4 years of term for $2M then that is probably better than taking 1 year at $3M and hoping you can get another contract next season when you're 30.
Jarnkrok is 30 and had 58 points in his last 115 games the last two seasons
Rodrigues is 29 and had 57 points in 117 games the last two seasons
Was told today that Jarmo Kekalainen did actually give Treliving a chance to up Seattle's offer for Bjorkstrand (was willing to do a 2nd straight up) but Treliving said no. One, because he didn't think it was the right move at the time and two, didn't want it to be seen as a little "heh heh" hand out (though he respects Kekalainen).
Take that with a MASSIVE grain of salt because I've only met this girl a couple times, but the way she told it sounded very believable, and she knows more hockey than most people I know, so it makes me wonder if she has family friends close to the team.
I still personally don't know whether I believe it or not, but thought I'd share just to get thoughts rolling
Edit: Also, the reason the part about Kekalainen giving Tre a chance to beat the offer isn't just "any team could've beaten the offer", is because Kekalainen found a team willing to take Bjorkstrand at that price before all 31 teams knew he was even available.

Sounds like a non story to me. The Bjorkstrand and Tkachuk trades were on the same day and the Flames had been talking to Kadri since the start of free agency. No room for Bjorkstrand.

Well Bjorkstrand probably means no Kadri.
And I don't think Tre would give a #### if it looked like a Columbus handout if it helped his team at the end of the day.

Bjorkstrand also has a 10-team NTC. It's quite possible that the Flames may have been on it and Treliving didn't want to risk getting rejected by a player at the height that we were still taking body shots from the Gaudreau and Tkachuk exits.
Completely random thought, but I wonder if Sutter could turn Daniel Sprong into a more complete player. The guy has an amazing shot and speed. He is also money in the shootout. His WAR% over the past two seasons combined was in the close to 80. His goals scored per 60 minutes is actually pretty impressive and he gets most of his points 5v5 with low overall minutes. Seriously, if you watch just his goal highlights and didn't know anything else about him, you would think he was a star player. He had 14 goals in 63 games and all of them pretty. Added video to show what I mean:
The big knock on him of course is that he doesn't do anything else when he isn't gifted the puck. I don't know if it's attitude, ability, or what. It's kind of sad that a player with some very specific elite skills hasn't been able to build a more complete game. At this point, he has got to be seeing his NHL career slipping away, but Sutter has a way of getting through to players. It would be a really low risk signing. Heck, I'd try him on a PTO just to see. Might be worth taking on as a project as he is only 25. Maybe he could be a Rodrigues in the making with the right coaching and line mates.

Rodrigues is a decent player and a good add if your RW doesn't look like ours. I feel like this is putting lipstick on a pig, considering the outlook of the RW depth chart and our forwards overall, this isn't the move I'd make to cure the weakness.
I read this link today and I'm not sure the validity but I'm hoping its true in some capacity.

As somebody who has watched Sprong since junior, I would normally say pass-he's pretty one-dimensional, not really physical, and a bit of a floater. That said, he's a dynamic skater, owns a good passing game, and has a good shot. Some of his numbers are pretty encouraging too-good numbers in junior, AHL (65 pts in 65 games in 2017-18 for Wilkes-Barre), and a few good NHL years (19pts in 47 games in 2018-19 for the Ducks, and 20pts in 42 games in 2020-21 for the Caps). Interesting player, but not sure he's worth signing.
On the other hand though, as was said above, what could Sutter do with him?
Last Word on Hockey did a write-up about how Philly might trade C/LW Scott Laughton. I know that our most immediate need is a 2nd line RW, but I’ve been a fan of Laughton’s since junior. He’s 6’1”, defensively responsible, and plays the game HARD. He’s also a leader, and someone who could help come playoff time. He’s scrappy and hard-nosed. I know it won’t happen, but boy would he look good on a line with Backs and Coleman. He’s signed for the next 4 years at $3m/ per.
