I was warming up to the idea of Kessel. Realistically though, I don't think he would have ever chosen to play in Canada again and probably wouldn't have been a good match with Sutter
I really couldn't see it happening for those reasons.

During the off-season they can exceed the cap by 10%, which they haven't done yet.

Once the season starts, Weber's $7.8 million will be on permanent LTIR, because he's not playing again. And remember, they only took on his contract because Montreal demanded that for taking on Dadonov.

Add on Lehner's $5 million, and they'll have enough room to fill out the roster at league minimum. But they'll be a shadow of the team they thought they would be when they picked up Eichel.

Dadonov, Pacioretty, Janmark, and Lehner all gone for nothing or less than nothing. Woof!

Not sure how much of a problem it is, but he loves playing poker. Supposedly really good friends with Daniel Negreanu, too.

Other options:

- Rodrigues
- Valimaki for another struggling player (someone like Vilardi or Zadina?)
- Move Mangipane to his off-wing (Sutter talked about how moving Tkachuk to RW helped expand his offensive game. I could see it for Mangiapane who has scored quite a few on his off-wing). This would also help Pelletier's chances of securing an LW spot
- Give Phillips every chance to make the team

I don't think he was a good fit here like many seemed to. Vegas seems like the place for him. Wonder if Cassidy will play him every game or break the ironman streak...

Wasn't keen on Kessel anyways. Would have driven Sutter nuts..

Dude plays pot-limit Omaha. You have to be some kind of degenerate to really, really get into a game like that.

It would have been fun for a bit. But meh, glad he chose to stay on the desert. They must make some killer hotdogs down there.

Well, there goes Edmonton’s plan B if the Patrick Kane trade fell through. I don’t think Kane is going to Edmonton either, so once again, because they can’t shut their big fat mouths, the Edmonton media looks like a bunch of flipping morons!!

I think one of the reasons Phil goes to Vegas is that it will be a safe bet (pun intended) for him to be in the line up every game to beat and keep the iron man streak. Who knows what Sutter would do if Phil has a few bad games in a row...

Maybe we’re a half hour away from a Flames trade for Kane shocker?!

I doubt Treliving or Sutter wanted Kessel anyway.

Vegas still has cap issues though. $7.2 million over the cap, about $8.5 million that can be applied to LTIR, but only 18 healthy players on their roster.

Crazy to think they could start the season with almost $17 million on LTIR when you consider they acquired Weber's contract as well.

Great deal for him too at $1.5M. Too bad. That could have been fun.
