I don’t get all the hate over them being in street clothes?
The players are way more marketable and relatable this way. EA knows hockey fans are buying the game already, they are trying to bring in new fans

I was a community leader for the NHL series w/ EA in 2005-2007. The series has been stagnant ever since they made the leap to the skill stick. They really need to overhaul that thing. Once a yearly holiday for me, I haven't bought the game since about 2014.

It’s not odd at all. Zegras is a walking highlight reel with all of the moves he goes for. He’s also great in front of the camera and very personable. He’s the perfect choice

It has already been mentioned but just in case it isn't obvious this is entirely marketing. Do you choose the efficient german born d man from Detroit, or the social media frenzied, hollywood looking, high scoring and dazzling dekeing american prodigy who lives in the largest media market in the USA... Seems pretty obvious.

All true, but I was thinking it would make more sense when he's a few years older and has dazzled the league for a time and/or has a scoring title. But I'm not in marketing so what do I know (or care).
If Makar has another big year, it would be hard not to put him on for 2024.

Are they going to change the name to EA "Hockey" 2023? Because it is a bit funny to have Nurse on the cover when she's not in the NHL.
