Default Trevor Zegras and Sarah Nurse Selected as Cover Athletes for EA NHL 2023

Anaheim Ducks' Trevor Zegras, Canadian women's hockey star Sarah Nurse grace NHL 23 cover.

I thought these were both pretty interesting choices. Looks like EA is taking a different angle on the cover athlete(s) this year.

Cool to see Nurse on there, she's great. Not sure why Zegras is showing us his crotch.

Glad they chose the right Nurse to be on the cover.

Drives me nuts that you can't get these games on PC or Switch though.

It notes that it is for the "X-Factor Edition". I wonder if they will have a different athlete for the regular and deluxe editions?

Incels are having a field day, however.

I believe its just different poses for the cover athletes per edition. Awesome to see Nurse on the cover.

Good for both of them; that’s an utterly horrendous cover for a video game. They’re wearing street clothes and they’re outside in the middle of summer.

Surely it won’t actually ship like that.

Adding Sarah Nurse to the cover the first smart thing EA has done with the franchise in some time.

Madden saw a return to PC in Madden 19 a couple instalments after the Frostbite engine was introduced.

That made the port to PC a lot easier as I think the main hurdle is they don't want to invest in something they percieved to:

a.) Have bad piracy issues
b.) Too much development cost for what they perceive to to be a minority part of the NHL fanbase.

Now that they've added several of their major EA Sports titles to EA Play, I think conditions are becoming more favorable for NHL to return to PC in the next few years. Of course EA are a bunch of kleptomaniacs so who knows, lol.

You are not missing anything, the AI is terrible and it will be the same game they have been slapping lipstick on for years.

NHL 11 with Toews on the cover is the last time I could play an NHL game and enjoy myself.

Yeah I think overall quality has gotten worse over time.

The X-Factor system is atrocious and defies its very purpose, to better balance games in EASHL. They were mindful enough to block players from using the "Wheels" X-Factor entirely but everyone just equips the next best thing, where every forward at the higher levels will have Elite Edges and Close Quarters equipped while manning the smallest dude possible (5'7 160lb). They can zip around faster than McDingus and have an unstoppable shot in close.

Balance for this game is a joke.

Such a terrible franchise lol. If the random sim engine is still in place, this heap is only good for micro transactions for the laughable hut mode

Can't believe virtual hockey peaked like 20 years ago with nhl 2k5

I'd say the greatest hockey game ever made was NHL '94. Tons of fun stuff from '95 to '05, but '94 is still the king IMO.

Same with Madden football. EA has been mailing it ever since the competition went away.

NHL 2k5, St. Louis cover. NEVER FORGET the intro of the right stick deke.

But really, I liked 2k5- 2k9, then NHL 10 and 11 were OK... everything after that has been absolute bollox.
