Dang. I would've liked that deal for Calgary. Statsny a versatile and veteran piece I think would've brought a lot of good.

By order of preference:
1. Rodrigues (best fit)
2. Kessel (for the lulz)
3. Milano (shoots left)

If they didn't get Kadri that's who I would've liked in Calgary. Nice deal.

Then they better get out there and film a high-res promo video for pocket dawgs, because Kessel will be tripping over himself to sign for league minimum

Not sure why Milano and Rodrigues are still unsigned. They are 0.50 ppg players, not old and not expensive.

Both have really only had 1 decent year in the league and it was last season if they are trying to turn those into multi year deals based on last years performance in a flat cap world it likely hasn’t worked out for them.
I assume now both are looking at the best fits for them in terms of a 1 year deal so they can try and capitalize next season. I could see Rodrigues being a versatile fit here and get opportunities with any of our top 3 centers

Well the upside is that he might score 50 points for $1.5 million. Do points not count if a player is 37?

Rodrigues is also 29 and just hit double digits in goals for the first time last season. Maybe he can do it again, but he is likely a one-hit wonder.
Milano is a few years younger (26) and actually matched his previous goal totals last season, he just happened to accumulate more assists because of his line mates. Less of a one-hit wonder, but still some flags.
Pedigree also counts. Rodrigues was an undrafted player, while Milano was a mid 1st rounder, so the expectation is probably that he should be able to repeat his numbers.

Great move for the Canes. A middle 6 C who still drives play and can fill in for Patches as he recovers. Also takes over in case Staal or Kotkaniemi falters. Got to hand it to the Canes for their asset management in the past 2-3 years

You're misunderstanding. I'm not saying he's going to get better. I'm saying the upside of the deal is that he could, conceivably, play like a 4-5 million dollar player this season for them. He's old, but he's not cooked, and he could provide a lot of value in light of the fit with the roster. He could also play like a 1.5 million dollar player, obviously, but in that case he's appropriately paid and there's no problem. That's what I mean by zero risk and all upside.
