Flames PP1
Who you got?
Huberdeau Lindholm Kadri are locks. Toffoli and Mangiapane are likely the next guys up. Lucic is also an option if they want a netfront boulder. Backlund and Coleman are deeper options.
Bigger question mark is on D. Hanifin and Andersson rotated last year to mixed results. Weegar had some time on PP1 in FLA with Ekblad hurt, but FLA usually went with a 5F look with Barkov on the point.

No way should Lucic touch the PP.
I expect Weegar to get first chance, along with Mangiapane.

Huberdeau-Kadri-Toffoli
Andersson-Lindholm
Would be my early guess.

Going with the 1-3-1 because Looch starts the season in beast mode with something to prove.
Looch
Huberdeau Lindholm Kadri
Hanifin

Would've thought PP1 would be Mangiapane - KADRI - Toffoli - Hubedeau - Weegar
Second PP
Dube - Lucic - Coleman
Kylington - Andersson
Very much depends on RW help in the top 6, Dune improvents and Rucika playing 1s

I would rather have a balanced PP than all eggs in a basket.
PP1: Huberdeau, Lindholm, Mangiapane, Weegar, Andersson
PP2: Backlund, Kadri, Toffoli, Hanifin, Kylington.

Kadri
Mang/Toff - Lindholm - Huberdeau
Andersson
Coleman
Mang/Toff - Backlund - Dube
Hanifin
Andersson-Hanifin pair does the PP, the other 2 pairs handle the PK.
If they pick up another RW, that guy replaces Dube
One of Mang / Toffoli / new RW plays on PP1, the other 2 on PP2

Most teams rely on PP1. The PP is a “go for it” stretch of 2(+) mins, worrying about balancing the units makes no sense in my eyes.
PP1: Kadri, Lindholm, Toffoli, Mangiapane, Weegar
PP2: Backlund, Dube, Coleman, Lucic, Andersson or Hanifin

^ I'm going to assume that Huberdeau was an oversight on PP1. Replace Mang with Huberdeau and Backlund with Mangiapane.
Winning.

While I totally agree with stacking the first unit, I think you may have forgotten someone LOL......

One idea I wouldn't mind bringing back from the Gulutzan days is having PP2 just be an elite 5 on 5 unit that finishes off the powerplay, with the aim of turning the last 20 seconds of the PP into the start of a long cycle shift against tired PKers. We didn't have enough talent at the time (Brouwerplay...) so our PP1 suffered, but having the 3M line + Gio-Hamilton finish off each powerplay and dominate the next shift was great.
Huberdeau-Kadri-Lindholm-Mangiapane-Weegar
Dube-Backlund-Coleman-Hanifin-Andersson
PP1 gets the first 1:30 of every powerplay, PP2 finishes it off and keeps the momentum going, and then come right back with either the Lindholm line or Kadri line.

How many times did we see the first line draw the penalty and PP2 start? It was pretty often last year. So by not having more balance you are only getting 1 minute of PP1. I would rather balance it out and have two lethal units.

...I also made a Nespresso right after that post without putting a mug in the spot to actually receive the coffee. Pretty safe to say today is a write off.

I think Weegar won’t be on the PP for the first bit.
Lindholm - Kadri - Mangiapane
Huberdeau - Andersson/Kylington
Toffoli - Backlund - Dube/Pelletier
Hanifin - Kylington/Andersson

Boy the PP is going to be really weird with no Johnny. Hopefully it holds up ok.

Generally when you balance it out, you end up with no lethal unit. And seldom does any team end up with two lethal units. To do that, you better have a PP QB who himself is lethal that can play the entire two minutes, like McDavid or usually a stud dman.
And the PP1 often plays quite a bit more than a minute, it's never divided evenly.

PP1
----------- Mangiapane ------
Huberdeau - Lindholm - Kadri
------------- Weegar -------- - Huberdeau sets up camp on the left circle, that's his bread and butter
- Lindholm, Kadri, and Mangiapane rotate around the right circle
- Kadri takes Tkachuk's role as a passer, when the Flames have the puck on the right side, or behind the net
- Lindholm and Mangiapane are the main trigger man
- When the PP becomes too static Kadri goes to the net as net-front presence, Mangiapane and Kadri try to jam in rebounds
- Weegar is my first choice for a defenseman, because I expect some chemistry with Huberdeau
- Another play that would work well is Mangiapane leaving the puck at the left circle for Huberdeau and quickly skating behind the net, and to the front ready for a pass while Huberdeau dangles

While Johhny is certainly a strong PP producer - Huberdeau ranks third behind only the Edmonton duo in PP points over the past three seasons with 91, while Gaudreau ranks 30th with 62. I think we will be just fine.
Based purely on last year
Huberdeau - 38 PP points
Kadri - 29 PP points
In - 67 PP points
Tkachuk - 29 PP points
Gaudreau - 25 points
Out - 54 PP points
