Treliving is not a linear program that can only work on one thing at a time.
The more likely explanations are that a) they weren't interested, or b) that they did not want to beat the price, or c) Bjorkstrand did not want to come here

Yeah why didn't they get Brown to complete the Leafs trade that never materialized?

Remember at that draft with we got Hamilton how many GMs were pissed that they didn't even know he was available.
Maybe Bjorkstrand was a first come first serve situation.

If they weren't interested in or didn't want to beat that price on Bjorkstrand, that'd be a problem in player evaluation. He's an excellent player who moved for a pittance.
I think it's far more likely that they just had other matters on their plate.

I think it's far more likely that Bjorkstrand didn't want to come here. Or that they weren't interested in him.
Having a few minutes to call the agent doesn't seem like something Treliving, all people, couldn't squeeze in, if they were interested in the player

The best part was the scene inside the locker room when Carlylse walked in and one of the other players said; "Phil, you're late".

We didn’t exactly have the cap space to acquire Bjorkstrand. Seattle did.
We had to pony up a first round draft pick attached to Monahan because we were able to sign a deal with a player willing to sign here for a 7 year deal.

The Rooney thing is puzzling.
I am not going to lie, I had never even heard of the guy until the Flames signed him. Rooney mentioned that the Flames tried to sign him a couple of years ago as well, but he chose New York. The Flames obviously see something in him.
I can't speak on him as a player, because like I said, I never heard of him before. I don't follow other teams like I used to back in the day. All I can do is look at it on paper, and Rooney doesn't seem to add anything that wasn't already in the system.

Bjorkstrand would have been an amazing fit but we can't afford his cap in the short term or the long term. Even if they could have moved Lucic to fit him in this year he has 3 more years after that at 5.4M. Some moves are going to have to be made next year to make the cap work, major moves if they re-sign Weegar too.

Over the last 3 years Bjorkstrand has proven to be a 30 goal 60 point guy. Not sure how $5.4 mil with some of the contracts being dished out is going to kill your cap. Trade next to nothing for him and figure it out next year.

It was going to kill the cap this year. Spend the money on Bjorkstrand and you can't spend it on Kadri. A strong RHS RW would be very good to have, but the upgrade at C was a necessity.

Another poster educated me on that you can delay 10% of bonus counts against your cap until the next year
Any idea of what number this looks like for the flames this year? I.e. $25K max vs $5Mill?

Nothing much. According to CapFriendly, the Flames' potential performance bonuses for this season are only $200,000. Signing bonuses can't be deferred.

I believe what you meant to say is that you can defer the cap hit from performance bonuses up to 10% of the cap by one season. The Flames have $200K in performance bonuses that could be earned on the roster according to CapFriendly.

He could start with not signing any Rooney types. And probably foregoing another year of Lewis.
A few fringe non-signings add up. Then you have sweet, sweet cap and you'll actually use your farm for effing once.

People complained about Gudbranson over the farm kids too.

Lewis is making $800,000. The NHL minimum this year is $750,000.
Are you seriously beefing over $50,000, or is this just another ‘Treliving is always wrong’ post?

I hope you realize that players from the farm also count against the cap… and they lose you games if they're not ready for the show.
