Monohan and Belibeau… two more legends of the Banff Fighting Squirrels.

I actually wouldn’t be upset if that happened. I hope he tears it up in MTL, I don’t care about winning this trade, hopefully it’s a win win because of Kadri.

In the Gudbranson interview he really emphasized that Monahan’s hip was “really no bueno” from the start of the season. I don’t know if he can fully recover, but the comparison to Tanev was interesting about both of them being the toughest dudes. I wish to see Monahan’s career rebound like Tanev by stringing along several healthy seasons. That said, the Flames were not in a position to take that risk this season.

We shouldn’t expect 70-80 points.

We should expect 50 points, physical presence and the ability to take shifts against star players.

Man, I would love if Monahan found success. Guy has been a warrior for the Flames and personally, I really want to see him do well there. Helps that he's out east and the Flames would only face him once in the regular season and potentially in the finals, if he indeed ends up returning to 1st line form. I believe Tre did this not only to help the Flames cap situation, but also to give Monahan a better opportunity than he'd have in Calgary. Flames management have always had nothing but admiration, respect and love for Monahan.

Yeah his career average is 0.797PPG.

If he hits his average we should be pretty happy. He's not being paid to be a PPG player.

I would have no problem with the Flames losing that trade if Monahan can come back and have a rejuvenated career. I would be cheering on a 90-point Monahan and I hope it happens.

Man Monahan is one of my all time fav flames; took a bit to realize he’s not gonna be in flames silks anymore and it’s tough no doubt because I feel for how he finished off his time as a Flame, lots of pain and it took true grit to try and reinvent his game through all of that. He’s a consummate pro and will be a fantastic Flames Alum in the future there’s no doubt. I’m really rooting for him to bounce back with the Habs, I hope he goes there and just has fun again. Thanks for everything Sean and all the best!

Montreal isn't relevant to Calgary anyway

This is likely a both teams win trade

If Monahan somehow comes back as a 90-point player, I don't think many would look at trading him and a 1st round pick for future considerations and cap space as a winning trade. At 90 points, Monahan would probably be outscoring Kadri, and for a chunk less money.

As it stands right now with Monahan looking unlikely to ever return to his prior form, it's probably a win-win.

Depending how things look at the deadline, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him come back as the future consideration.

Lol he has never scored 90 before so unlikely is an understatement

Also, if he scores a bunch in a bottom feeder bleeding and losing games that doesn't mean he would have been successful here on the 3rd or 4th line. Kadri will be the Flames #2 center and there is more to hockey than points.

My overwhelming hope is that the surgery gives him a normal life. Anything after that, for me, is gravy.

Are you aware that nobody was suggesting he's actually going to get 90 points except for that nutbar on Twitter?

My post was just an expression of support for Monahan and how I would be happy to see that hypothetical and extremely unlikely situation actually happen because I like Monahan and am cheering for him to have a good future career.

90 points is underselling Monahan. No reason to think he won't win the Hart, Lindsey and Art Ross. I see 600 goals and 1300 points in this guy

That is the hottest of hot takes. When Gaudreau put up 79 and 84 points, Monahan finished with 63 and 62 (in 72 games) and when Johnny had 99 he put up 82. So how exactly is Cole Caufield and his 43 points from last year going to suddenly unlock a 90 point season out of a guy who couldn't put up this totals with a player who was in or around the top 10 in scoring in those 3 years.

Monahan was a good guy who played thru injuries, but he was never able to hold his own against the other teams best players and was lost a lot of the time without Gaudreau. Better chance he plays less than 160 more games in the NHL than he does of putting up another 75 point season.

I said Montreal was irrelevant to the Flames and you said if Monahan scores 90 and outscores Kadri the Flames "lose"

Trade will almost certainly help both teams

Not sure why this even seems worth discussing/debating to you, but I don't really care.

I'm just expressing my support for Monahan.

I would be stunned if (1) the Flames take on over $2M in cap space for Monny at the deadline; and (2) we ever hear what the future considerations are..

Keep in mind that the Flames can't reacquire Monahan in a retained salary transaction, so, they would have to make room for his full cap hit if they were going to reacquire him.
