Man every article pushed out by the No goods up north speak to Patrick Kane as the answer to Calgarys off-season; and look out because Keith is going to take an off ice role and you just have to know he’s doing his best sell job to Patrick… barf worthy articles that come across as sad. It’s also got me wanting Treliving to step in the way and land Kane because the upset up north would be extremely real and delicious. I know we won’t land him but I can’t help but think of a top line Huberdeau - Lindholm - Kane … it would almost be unfair… almost

He may enjoy it, and why not when you're a multi-millionaire, but it sounds like Phil's much better at hockey!

It is truly amazing that they think Keith, a guy they coerced into retiring early, would become their champion and ambassador with respect to convincing Kane to go there.

Yost’s article specifically was beyond cringe worthy, it’s an embarrassing notion. If Kaner is orchestrating his trade I highly doubt Edmonton is on his radar and I doubt even more Keith could sway him.

Why is that? At least put in some effort.
The guy was 15th in xGF% and 17th in five on five points for a division winning hockey club.
Bad? At what exactly?

Don't see the Flames moving any of their top four defenseman after spending that much money to shore up their forward group.
And Hanifin is now their only legitimate left shooting defenseman, can't see him moved.
If there's depth it's in 4-7 left shooting defenseman, or top four right shooting defensemen.
Can't believe how underrated Hanifin is around here.

Quite amazing, for sure.
Any ideas as to why he is so underrated?

I think its really easy to Chalk up the Hanifin stuff to the simplest answer of : He's another American who's going to leave us, trade him now before he too hurts our feelings.
Of course there's a couple of ppl that have simply just not liked Hanifin for years but at least they're consistent. Easy to separate from the growing Chaffe.

It’s a good healthy debate in terms of dealing from a position of strength to upgrade the top 6 right side but at the end of the day some of the valuing of Hanifin in the trade proposals are truly underrating the player, a 25 YO puck moving D with 500 games under his belt already is a rarity and a high end asset at his current caphit.
I look at Toronto and they currently sit 1.5 mill over the cap with 22/23 roster spots filled, the remaining roster spot is the outstanding RFA contract for Sandin. Something around Hanifin for Nylander could get me excited and willing to let Hanifin go but I feel Toronto would have to add to get it done.
Huberdeau - Lindholm - Nylander
Mangiapane - Kadri - Toffoli
Pelletier - Backlund - Coleman
Lucic - Rooney - Lewis
Ruzicka
Weegar - Tanev
Kylington - Andersson
Valimaki - Zadorov
Mackey
Markstrom
Vladar
You can see the impact to the top 4 though without a doubt and that’s something I think Sutter will really value so at the end of the day I don’t think the Flames are going to be trading a guy like Hanafin. Most likely we’ll see Valimaki flipped to help bring in a UFA like Kessel if the Flames are wanting to bolster the forwards at the expense of a D.
Can’t wait until October and the finishes touches on the roster, it’s going to be tons of fun!

Very good but not great at anything?
That amounts to a hell of a hockey player but not one that has a clear cut calling card.
He's fast but not the fastest
He's big but not the biggest
He's got good offensive instincts but he's not an offence guy.
He's good defensively but not a shut down guy
He's quiet, not the big interview
But he can put up numbers, play against the other team's best players, and be a huge part of a division winning team's defense.

As cerebral a defenseman as we’ve ever had and I think he’s just coming into his own right now, I could see a Norris trophy winner emerge out of Noah if he’s able to take another step and push his ceiling higher. It’s crazy to say that for how long he’s been around already, I mean if it wasn’t for Covid he’d most likely be flirting with 600 games played, maybe 20 short. At 25 that is remarkable and it shows that there’s still room for growth, if we were to trade Hanifin I’d be holding my breath until I knew the return.

Not drafted by the Flames, American, not flashy....etc. Combination of all those.
He is a solid and legit top pairing guy though by any metric. On a steal of a contract to boot.
I hope the Flames extend him as IMO his best days are still ahead.

Ok - hear me out - his daughter's 1st name is one letter off Kadri.
Treliving, book a meal with Kessel, bring Darryl and have them play one hand, all in, for a contract.
Book it. LFG. ; )

So T.O. is trying to trade Kerfoot?
Not sure what his current cap hit is but he's still a pretty useful player.

Hanifin was terrible against EDM and contributed directly to numerous turnovers that cost us.
That series was a team effort but he was undoubtedly the weak link on defense.
I liked his regular season work the last two campaigns but a performance like that wears off the love affair pretty quickly.
Just like with the two guys that left, I'm iffy about players that don't step up under the bright lights, as Tre put it.

Hanifin did not have a good series, true, but Kylington was worse, imo. Until Tanev came back to direct him on the ice, I literally cringed every time he was on the ice.

He was rough post-spill. Feel like that incident shook him out of the confidence he had built up.
Hopefully he comes into camp looking poised/reset.

Don't think Hanifin is underrated, he's a solid dman. I do feel his value right now is higher than I think he deserves as a dman which is why I would want to use him as a trade chip for a top 6 winger.
