All true. Though also on 2014 D - Dan Hamhuis, F - Kunitz, Sharp, etc.

But I think the main point people were making is you need a Hedman or Makar. I’m not sure about that. We can debate about labels, but St. Louis’ win, for example, was a team effort IMO, and not as much on their couple of stars. Vegas was in the finals without a superstar defenceman, Boston’s best D in their finals was Krug (McAvoy was a sophomore).

St Louis is an exception. Very few teams in recent history that won without elite talent.

That gives the Flames hope for sure

Btw, plenty of teams without elite talent made to the finals but they weren’t winning

The Flames have elite talent. Just not a top 3 defenceman.

Huberdeau is elite? Who else?

One could also argue he is on the lite side of elite

Elite to me are Kucherov, Hedman, MacKinnon , Makar, Kane, Crosby, Malkin level

115 points playing mostly with Bennett and Duclair...

Pretty elite production even if he was playing with elite players, which he wasn't

Markstrom. Lindholm is Selke level. Tanev is, IMO a top 3 defensive d-man.

But you just undercut the “elite defenceman” argument. Pietrangelo, Carlson, etc. are not on your list.

Dude just established the record for points by his position ...so he isn't "lite" elite .

Only thing elite is your posts .

Markstrom is an elite goalie. Lindholm is making a case for himself as well

St Louis has a very balanced team with good players. No generational elite. That’s the Stanley Cup winning team the Flames is closest to.

Carlson is not elite but Ovechkin sure damn is

I said he is elite but compared to the guys I listed that won the Stanley Cup, he is lite. Roll all you want but that’s fact and no shame in it.

Selke award has become a secondary award for players that get more than a ppg but really are not elite.

The Last shut down Selke winner was Kris Draper in 2004.

Right now the best shut down forward is clearly Danault.

He is able to force the opposition to keep their elite scoring players away from him.

Backlund is a far superior shut down forward than Lindholm as shown in the Oiler series.

Gonna love wearing my Kadri jersey.

I'm not Muslim, but my sister is a converted Muslim and married to one with a beautiful daughter.

My brother in law is a massive Flames fan too, and it's funny because he used to hate Kadri even though they share the Muslim connection, but he was pumped after the signing

Yeh, that Bergeron, what a mediocre talent he is.

Huberdeau is presently the best set up guy in the league and a top 3 LWer

85 apples is up there with Thornton's best season and the most by a LW, ever. All time.

Hilarious that as soon as a guy joins the Flames he is underrated.

I bet there is a more glowing assessment if he was still a Panther going into the season.

Lindholm is making a case . He is like O’Reilli. One tier below the elites.

Markstrom may but so far he is not. He was the main reason they lost the last series. That’s not elite.
