Before we lost Johnny I wanted to push the chips to the middle and go for it and likely fail.
Then we lost Johnny and thought blow it up now was the only option because you can’t replace top line players.
Then we get Huberdeau, Kadri and Weaver and we might be better than we were last year.
So we have a 3 year window of being in a fight for the division then we are in a world of hurt as people age out. Sign me up. Better than a three-five year rebuild starting now.

I can’t believe the segment of fans who are against this. This off-season has been fantastic. Failing for draft position is an Oiler move. Now sign Sutter to an extension.

Good thing Kadri won't be afraid to get up in his business.
I'm glad we'll still have Looch here to police things as well since you know a few of their guys are going to become unhinged (Kane).
My question is how will the No Goods even defend themselves this season? There's nobody there to answer the metaphorical bell they go on about.

Don’t you remember, it’s why Darnell Nurse is such good value because he is also the team enforcer…… holy moly

Yup. Get the rancher for 2 more after this one.
Next 3 years the Flames should be the most primed to make a run.
If he's going back to the farm then hopefully he can train his successor which I'm assuming would be Huska.

If the Oilers plan to keep McDavid, they’ll be paying him $15 mil plus when he is in his mid-late 30s. Draisaitl will be at least $12 million I expect.

The thing about rebuilds is they aren’t very successful, most of the time. It’s like a magic word people use: let’s just “rebuild”. Easy peasy.

Darnell's only good at shoving guys and making dumb big bird faces from what I've seen to this point.

I think these next few seasons should be exciting, but I'm not sure the trade-off is better. We likely have 2-3 seasons of going for it now which should be great, but that will likely be followed by a declining team and then a rebuild which could be a long time before we're good again. Or we could have rebuilt now, and I think in 3-5 years we would have been good again and that likely would have been followed by 5-7 years of a strong hockey team. Of course, if we win a cup in these next 3 years, I'm perfectly fine with a decade of sucking again.

Well, so much for the narrative 'players don't want to play here' of that.

It's got a world class backyard that rivals any land-locked city.
I'll never bite when people proclaim Calgary is universally disliked.
Literally rated most livable city in NA, and routinely rated among the most clean cities in the world.
People from the deep US including Florida are taking trips up here to see the mountains and lakes. I've run into a bunch of them. The popular spots are filled by 5AM every morning with tourists from abroad.
There is absolutely a crowd out there for Calgary and what it offers. It's not for everybody. But it's an ideal place to a lot of people.

This team now consists of only players acquired by Treliving and Sutter. Crazy.
As someone else mentioned, in almost 1 year you lose Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Monahan, Giordano, Bennett, and Brodie.

Genuinely excited. We have a whole new group of amazing players to watch. The brand of hockey will be a bit different. I think having a few more players who care about out anthem will make a big difference too.

I hate this signing with the burning passion of a thousand firey suns.
This deal is going to be an albatross from the first moment Kadri steps out onto the ice. He's never going to produce at a rate that will pay this off, what a god-awful, idiot move. I hate this. I hate it.

What rate of production would you be satisfied with?

I don't know where you're coming from with this but I don't think its an objective place, or anywhere near it.
He's a legitimately great 2C in this league and that wasn't just for last season.
I don't know why you think he would suddenly quit being that because he got paid.
I'm not betting on 87 points here, but I'm very confident in him being very good (from "the first moment he steps on the ice").

Kadri played last season at a 100 point pace and dominated the playoffs...there are some really odd harsh takes about this player. Even without the points he is an elite shutdown center like Backlund. Are people racist? Like I honestly don't get it...Flames are a way better team for these next few years they are going for it.

He'd be getting 9.5 per year if any GM thought his PPG season was going to be carried forward
