I hope the days of the organ accompanied anthems is done. About the only thing I didn't like. Otherwise happy that we're still looking to keep the live organ player tradition going.

To each their own and he was a loyal long time employees but I think the new period will be a bit more dynamic if the Flames hire properly and allow some creativity.
Agreed on the anthems, the organ got in the way of the singer more often than not, but that could change with another person.
The thread made me go watch the Chicago Stadium 1991 all star game anthem and organ.
I like live music, so continue having an organ player at the Dome is great, as long as the organist can have a larger playlist, not just the Zelda theme song all the time!!
here's the fun part, I've been told by a reliable source that they are offering a whopping $100 per game for this gig. factor in practice time, travel, etc. and the fact that you have to be a very experienced musician with excellent improvisation skills, this sounds like a bum deal.
the Flames have handed out like 9 digits worth of contract money this summer, but are basically tossing loonies at the role that's a memorable part of the fan experience. I really hope this was nothing close to what Willy was making because that's a goddamn travesty.
Musicians are treated like trash. Even after one of my former bands won CBC Searchlight as Canada's top new band out of 5000 acts, our guarantee was only $300 per show (for the entire band/crew/manager). Our average drive time was 6 hours per day while hauling a huge trailer of gear. Because of our low earnings, we had to ask fans for a place to stay each night, and if we couldn't find a place we would spend some of the money that hadn't already gone towards gas on a room. This doesn't sound like a great set-up, but we were in a far better position than most bands we met on the road.
For bands there is no AHL to the NHL. You either make it or you just make memories and music instead. The saddest part is musicians are so used to being undervalued and unappreciated that some other talented individual will jump at taking a low paying gig like the Flames gig if you don't take it yourself. Because of this, nothing will change and no one needs to pay musicians what they are worth.
It's easier to take advantage of someone who loves what they do.

this got a like from "rockstar", so it's most definitely legit
If anyone frequented Kensington Pubs around 2005-07 you may have caught Warren playing the keyboard along with the live game at "Get Pucked at F.A.T.S."

Literally my #1 complaint of New Guy is I haven't heard Zelda yet.
