What an offseason.

The Flames team next season is entirely different. Crazy thing you rarely see in any professional team sport, especially when not in a rebuild situation.

Well this was quite the news to come to on my break. It’s a bit steep, but I’ll take it. It’s obvious we’re going for it now. Let’s go!

My sources within the organization tell me this was the plan all along and is why we didn’t re-sign Chucky or Johnny. It is nothing to do with location or wives or whatever.

Ownership saw dollar signs with the Blasty sales and told Tre to double down on that for this year.

So not only did Brad have to bring in new stars but we also are going to see another version of blasty announced shortly.

Hopefully it is a couple years before he goes back to his traditional 55 point a season pace. Should be an ok contract for the first 3 years at least.

Can't please everyone.

Who ####ing cares about the contract several years from now. Flames are legitmatly built to win the cup within the next few years!

If the Flames win the cup (or at least make it to conference finals), and then the bad contracts become an issue, you deal with it then. That's worth the price to win it all.

A two way center that puts up 55-70 pts a season is actually worth about 7 M in today's NHL.

Yeah at 7M, as the cap rises, even if it isn't good value in the back half, it's probably not completely prohibitive.
But there is some risk for sure.

The Flames have to compete the next two years, because this contact is going to be ugly near the end.

Yes, I hate long contracts on old players more than anyone.

But at this point, with Kadri, Huberdeau, Coleman, Markstrom, etc., the cap situation in 5 years is practically a lost cause. They might as well keep trying to win now.

They didn't pay him to play on the 4th line, they paid him to play on the 1st line.

I don't care what they paid Kadri, but why just make stuff up to fit your narrative?

First game that everyone sees him play McDavid will ease any fears.

I think we need to exam Nazem much more situationally. He was NEVER given the best wingers in Toronto (by the time he had come into his own at least) and always used in a shut down role (especially after acquiring Tavares.)

In Colorado, he was given sheltered offensive minutes (MacK took the heavy defensive match) and thrived with offensive linemates. If you look at his production, he actually scored under or at his usual pace of goals, but it was his assist count that went through the roof.

We are going to be playing him in a colorado situation here, not a toronto situation. His linemates are going to be Mangi and probably one of Toffoli or Dube. Lindholm and Huby are likely going to get the prime d matchups, while Backlund will be taking the heavy d zone starts, leaving Kadri hopefully open for feasting like last season. I think the fit is there.

Not to mention the division the Flames are in, not like it's full of contenders.

May as well try and win a cup. Treliving has done really well this off season, what a turn around.

I am so excited to enjoy the ride! Can't worry about the tail end of contracts this is just the way things are done.

We went from being a serious contender.. to losing our top two players and things looking rough next year.

Now we gained three great players that will arguably be more effective in certain ways. Total rollercoaster I cannot believe it but I am so happy and excited!!

totally agree the team is set up to make a push for the next 4 years or so and they are already all in with the huberdeau deal. It will be scorched earth for a couple years after that but that's fun in it's own way watching a team rebuild.
