You are correct, I meant to stay basically no top unit powerplay time.
Where Barzal is the center of the Islanders powerplay

Everyone on the team had bloated stats.
Barzal without a doubt is a more valuable player than Hanifin, especially on the Flames. Hanifin can also walk in a couple yrs or get a bloated contract. So contract is also not an issue between them

It’s still two seasons on a sweetheart deal. That has a ton of value. Why is a bloated contract for Hanifin a concern, but not for Barzal? He’s already making almost 3 million more than Hanifin and will be looking for a raise after this season.

Regular season sure but Weegar needs a steady partner especially in the playoffs if he's on the top pairing. Also Brayden Point has skated circles around him the last two years so if people are criticizing Hanifin and how he performed against McDavid, I don't see Weegar doing any better.

I think the team really wants the depth on D. Injuries will happen and one injury last hear derailed their playoffs. They likey want as many capable d-men as possible and don’t care if some are in the A. I could see Valimaki being traded but other than that I am guessing everyone sticks around. The only 1 would Be worried about losing to waivers is Mackey.
To improve the forwards I wouldn’t mind Dube + picks/prospects included. He is still young and has value. Include a high pick and a high prospect and hopefully get someone for the middle six with some offensive pop.

He has averaged 70 pts per 82 games played since he became a full time NHL player. (Mostly on a Barry Trotz coached team)
Mikael Backlund has averaged 43.
Just for comparison.

I doubt anyone trades for Dube until the world junior team fiasco is cleared up. It certainly appears like he might be a member of the 8. And if the Flames try and trade him, it might look suspicious.

They both will have bloated contracts. So contract concern is the same for both. (Assuming Hanifin has a good year)
Bottom line Barzal is much more valuable for the Flames than Hanifin. They have depth on defense. Weegar can do what Hanifin could and more.

The team is weak at C and deep at D.
You need good C depth to win...Flames don't have that so if they can get it, they should. It's better to have 2 #1 C's than having 6 top 4 D.
If Barzal is available, get him.

He isn't though, this discussion has been entirely wish-fulfillment speculation because the NYI are in on Kadri. Every 2-3 days someone hopes they will make a Kadri contract work by trading Barzal. Which makes as much sense as the Flames trading Lindholm to sign Kadri.

If Kadri is coming here Lucic has to be getting dealt unless someone is willing to give Monahan a shot for free (Anaheim)?

The Islanders are in a more difficult spot on this front. The player they’re rumoured to be looking to dump is Josh Bailey - who has two years left on his deal. On the flip side, the Flames “dumps” look to be Lucic or Monahan, who are both in the final years of their respective contracts.
If Kadri ends up here, I’ll be pretty excited.
If Kadri ends up in NYI, I’ll feel a bit disappointed but also relieved.

My soccer team just broke its transfer record today, so it would be wild for us to get Kadri on the same day.
I suspect he goes elsewhere though.

100% on the same page. So pumped for next year if it goes down but I think the contract will be a stinger. If it is a 7x7 type deal I would be relieved if it is not here but at the same time if it is I will be extremely excited for next season
