"Farewell pipelines." That's what Jason Kenney says will happen to pipelines if Alberta pushes the sovereignty act and other provinces decided they want to follow suit.

Kenney says that the people who are putting forth wild conspiracies about the United Nations are the same ones who want the UN to come and enforce the rule that would allow Alberta pipelines to have coastal access.

What impact would Act on talent attraction to Alberta?
Kenney says it wouldn't be helpful. This campaign announced today is about drawing Canadians here- Sovereignty Act would actually lead Alberta to hemorrhage people like Quebec did during its early separation push.

Are you kidding me right now? The guy who pushed the Fair Deal, anti federal anything, remove a good carbon plan and attempt to sue the feds to prevent their own plan from being implemented, wanted to make Alberta have as much control as possible over police, CPP, etc.... The guy who then says these comments? What a tool. You rooted these ideas, harvested them in the party, now you are saying a sovereignty act would drive away investment and people, and would be bad for Alberta. LOL.

Alberta needs more skilled workers. We do have higher wages and less obtuse real estate prices. If anything they should be advertising that their party is unlikely to be leading the province by the time any of these skilled workers actually relocates here!
|
The best thing about this campaign is all the people he is recruiting to come here will NEVER vote for him or his party!
So yeah, bring them all here! lol

Completely disagree. Kenney's framework was rooted in current Constitutional allocations and essentially "taking back" what the province had allowed the feds to run for them.
Danielle Smith wants to "opt out" of the Constitution, which of course, is idiotic.
You can disagree with Kenney's policy but he was going to play by the rules of the game. Danielle Smith wants to unilaterally rewrite the rules.

A lot of folks (especially the extremely online) seem to overestimate how many other Canadians follow politics closely and are highly partisan. Even among Canadians who know and care which party forms the government in Alberta, I doubt there’s many who give more weight to politics than to housing costs, take-home pay, and commute/driving time,

Almost no one is changing their mind about a move to Alberta from elsewhere in Canada because of the government of the day. The number of people that partisan in general has to be extremely small.

Outside of Ontario, SK and BC I don't even know what parties are running the other provinces and I couldn't tell you outside of Ontario if they have majorities or coalitions.

No, but there are definitely people that are not moving to Alberta from Vancouver and Toronto because they perceive Alberta as a backwater hick province and this campaign and the UCP do nothing to change that.

It very much would be bad for Alberta. Danielle Smith is the ####ing worst. And clearly the people around her arent much better.

The type of people they’re targeting probably wouldn’t vote UCP, no. But if 1,500 more educated professionals a year move to Alberta and 1,000 of them vote for someone other than the UCP, I doubt that’s going to affect an election one way or another. It will have an outsized benefit to the economy, though.

Those people are never moving to Alberta no matter who the premier is. The campaign is targeting people who can be persuaded by financial and lifestyle benefits. The same factors behind the migration of Americans to Texas from states like California and Illinois.

This is the UCP we're talking about. The fact Kenney voiced it himself is a welcomed departure from their usual M.O. of throwing an ungodly sum of money at one of their friends for something of meagre or no value.

My sister and her husband (both working in health care) seriously considered moving to Calgary recently but the way the government has treated health care workers the last couple years was too much to ignore. They're looking elsewhere. Our loss.

Do you think that when opponents of the UCP help propagate those thoughts that it's helping or hindering having people move here? I'm not sure that attitudes of people were any different when we had Notely for their term.
