Dissentowner just said that the wife probably made the final decision. I think he's right, based on Gaudreau's behaviour where it didn't seem at all like he was acting of his own accord.

It's not cool to make her a villain though, as any intelligent happily married man is going to involve his wife in the decision making process.
But wondering or pondering if his wife played a role because of the confusion of how things went down doesn't make a hockey fan a terrible person. I think we need to pump the breaks a bit.

I so not sure if you know what virtue signalling is Based on this
People making sexist comments- others say come on not cool
You respond with stop virtue signalling? But also be nice to the wife?

Think it fits.
Rushing to say you're above talking about a player wife, when some are only just saying she might have played a role.

Man, that is definitely not all that was said about his wife in this thread. Just go back and read the posts.
Edit: Only 2 pages back there's a "meme" (struggle to call it this because it's so low effort) about johnny being whipped. There's myriad examples in this thread but just from today there's someone already posting beyond what you're describing.
This has become a #### thread, and no one should bother defending it.

She obviously played a role in a decision but that's not what led him to Columbus. Misreading the market and showing up on Free Agent Day with only one bid above $8 million is what made him choose Columbus. If you want to blame a person other than Johnny, it would be Lewis Gross. Hereinafter known as Gross Incompetence.

Sounds like Gross actually wanted a deal in Calgary and gave an ultimatum that Brad eventually agreed to. But he works for Johnny, who decided he would leave regardless of whether Brad matched his demands.

I like that Huberdeau went out and got a Flames jersey as soon as he could, had it lettered, was wearing it out to events. It's nice to see a player excited to play for his new team.

Or you could just read all that I said today where I was pretty clear that attacking either the player or his family personally was off side, it's ok to hammer those that go too far, or that it's understandable to have his wife involved.
Up to you though!

I just love how you came down on people trying to call out the sexism in this thread by calling them virtue signals - such an odd thing to do
Yet when you sort of did it in the same post it’s cool and not virtue signal

Huh?
He's asking me to go back two pages to see people have been off side, when I stated three times today that there's a line and hammering people for going over it is understandable.
How is that virtue signal?
Did I cut you off on the way in to work today? I knew that CP license plate would cause me grief.

I honestly can’t tell if your trolling me?
I am on a phone and can’t paste your definition you posted vs your post but try it! Well I could but lazy you know?
And no- you didn’t cut me off , I don’t know why you tend to try to move off the discussion like that.

Move off the discussion? I answered you directly. The sarcastic license plate comment doesn't derail anything ... it's just some fluff at the end.
All I was saying is there is some real estate between NEVER MENTION HIS WIFE and being sexist or cruel that doesn't require people being told to keep his wife out of it.
Had no idea pointing that out would cause such angst.

Nobody is really 'stating theories' or 'wondering' at this point. The only time someone makes a measured take like "of course any wife is involved in such a major decision" is in response to moronic/embarrassing posts. When people say it's cringey to bring up his wife, they are obviously referring to the moronic posts, not the measured ones.
I don't really see who you're trying to call out for virtue signalling?

You’re not really making any sense.
People are naturally going to have no idea what you’re talking about when you brought up how people are virtue signalling and telling others what they can talk about in response to people criticising over-the-top posts… only then to complain that you said criticising over-the-top posts was ok and not what you were talking about so everyone is misreading you by not recognising that.
Like… obviously people aren’t talking about the few posts suggesting Gaudreau’s wife “might” have played a role, they’re talking about the posts they’re pointing out to you that you’re agreeing are over the top… so who in the world were you referring to when you swung in talking nonsense about virtue signalling? lol

Look I could have certainly misread Yen's and Fleury's comments at the top. Happens all the time.
To me it started to feel like anytime his wife was brought up someone had to come in and point out how that could be taken the wrong way, and it's not a good look, and you're better than that when I think if handled in a classy way it's still up for discussion.
But maybe I'm touchy.
Did see some "thanks" on my original post today though, so clearly I'm not alone.
