Sounds like if he wants to be on a contender the Avs are the top choice.

If it’s about money Isles are the top choice.

Meet in the middle to come to Calgary?

I’d do 6 years and $6.75M AAV with Kadri.

…I’d maybe be more inclined to spend heavily in a trade to acquire a more prime aged centre, but those players just don’t get moved and this team needs a very good top-6 centre to skate behind Lindholm and ahead of Backlund.

There is no way he is getting 7x7. He is turning 32 when season starts. Incredible year but his next best year was 5 years ago when he had 61 points.

The other option would be to spend a bit to buy-low on a guy like Martin Necas. Not the most proven or sexy name, but a ton of tools and upside as a playmaker who hasn't really been played as a centre, but ought be. Maybe not the most "two-way" center out there but we have two-way centers in Backlund and Lindholm. Not like Jeff Carter was a two-way guy.

He would be the heir apparent to Backlund for sure.
Big fan of trying to acquire him and rumors are that he was part of the package offered for Tkachuk

I don't really see what Carolina would ask for from us for Necas. I guess Carolina could use another left d-man.

Maybe something around Kylington and Necas could make sense for both teams needs.

I do worry about Necas underlying numbers too a bit - quite ugly in terms of shot creation / shot prevention.

23 year old 6’2 center averaging 0.58 PPG over his first 3 seasons in the league.

I think he would be a lot pricier than people expect. It’s one thing to have him in a package for a bonafide superstar, it’s another just to trade him for the sake of it.

I just look back to all these failed veteran winger acquisitions.. Brouwer, Neal, arguably even Lucic and Toffoli to an extent, and the one common theme is that we haven't really had a quick, high-skill, playmaking centreman to make their job easy.

Brouwer's success in St. Louis came alongside Stastny in his prime.
Neal's always had some pretty good playmaking centres too. When those guys got here, we always tried to plop them in the wrong roles.

"go play with Backlund, oh wait you can't shutdown defense? That's not gonna work"

"go play with Bennett and Jankowski, oh wait, the best playmaker on the line is the left winger who barely gets the puck in open ice?"

"go play with Jarnkrok and Dube, oh wait, there is no playmaker on that line at all"

One of the most underated pieces on the last decade of the Boston Bruins is David Krejci. He made the jobs of his linemates - guys like Lucic, Horton, Iginla, Hall, the list goes on - as easy as possible. Bergeron and Marchand deserved the press, but having a guy like Krejci really made their forward groups balanced.

Can Necas be Krecji-tier? I dunno. But I like that his style of play is something that would ostensibly make a winger like Tyler Toffoli play to his potential. Arguably even moreso than Nazem Kadri, who I love, but is more of a shoot first creator.

If anyone likes potential twitter insiders with no followers, this guy got pretty close with the Necas signing four days ago.

Going back through his tweets, it also looks like he called the Campbell signing and Burns trades before they happened.

Based on the horrific city abbreviations, I assume that's the account Friedman uses when he's drunk.

That account is very strange. Almost no followers. Very few tweets. And yet all of them are seemingly hits... got Giroux and Campbell both slightly ahead of the main stream, hit on Necas. Bizarre.

Has NYI and Kadri discussing 7x7 right now. They also down played calgary signing Kadri recently.

It’s not obsession it’s just acknowledgement that this is a very good young player. The fact he gets the same as PullanRV and Yamamoto is embarrassing. Absolute steal for the Canes, no question.

Necas on a line with McDavid gets double the points those 2 get.

Necas also had a down year from the year before. How he only gets $3 is a unreal steal of a deal and is an RFA in 2 years
