Might as well change the station to Stein960 at this point. Assuming he's not quitting too.

If a company like Rogers is cutting things to the bone, what chance do you think an independent operation would have?

Not much, but it might actually do better. Rogers is a mammoth company with huge corporate overhead, and every division has to produce a certain profit margin to carry its share of that weight. Smaller businesses, especially those targeted at very specific market niches, can sometimes thrive where the big guys fail. They have to be nimble and lean.
The question is whether there is an adequate niche to be exploited.

After losing Will’s spores knowledge even mushroom farming will be hard. Where can Rogers possibly find someone like him to feed crap and keep them in the dark?
Welp, hopefully Will at least got a job at the Graggle Casino… or maybe he’s helping Collagen Gel sell cars?

Goodness, the fan in the mid-afternoon these days is terrible. That baseball show that is on until 2 or 3. At least it is from Toronto so it is a bit of an improvement from the CBS stuff.
This seems like the first summer the cupboard has been so bare

I was only half joking. But if someone emerges as THE Flames morning talk podcast, there might be some money to be made.

I would be happy to pay for a decent daily Flames podcast in the style of Boomer/Pinder/Warrener.

Sports isn't about being boring. We don't watch because we know the flames will likely be 31/32 teams that won't win the cup (97%). We watch because they have a 1/32 chance that they will... 3%

You also don't want to be like Edmonton though where the propaganda machine has got out of control. There's a fine line between what's perceived as negative and what's realistic and honest and a lot of fans simply can't handle the truth. A good radio station will will want personalities that provide different takes otherwise it becomes an echo chamber.

People always say things like this. And I'm not saying you personally wouldn't, but largely...people wouldn't. Keep in mind that stats earlier in this thread show that while the morning show hosts and the show itself were well liked, sports radio morning shows are among the lowest rated radio around, just by nature.
So you're taking some of the lowest rated radio, putting it onto a podcast that a portion of the aging Flames radio listeners aren't going to go find as opposed to flipping to the station AND you're going to charge them to do it?
Ain't happening. That's a great way to take their small thousands of daily listeners and turn it into low hundreds.

Consistently negative =/= truth
I find it fascinating how 'the negative half' (10% really) constantly use the truth card, like they think they're on some kind of high ground.

I don't think they really do that. The truth is usually somewhere in the middle. Fanatical people are obsessive about their team of choice and people deal with that different ways. There are fans that are overly jaded that's made their view skewed to the negative side and fans that don't want to acknowledge anything other than positives. It's all about how an individual deals with evidence presented and if it's being filtered through a biased or unbiased lense. An unbiased view to some can be viewed as positive or negative.

I'd agree with most of that.
Not sure there truly is an unbiased lens though. Anyone calling themselves objective or a realist really doesn't have the compass to self proclaim.

It’s about approach. Things might not always be sunshine and flowers. But things aren’t always #### and you don’t have to look for the negative in everything. Embrace the positive. Sports are supposed to be fun and an escape. You’re not saving babies.

I think the Flames talk podcast has been successful for the fan. I believe that was a fairly high ranked show on Spotify if I am not mistaken. I think Pat will continue to do that show daily in the fall and he will continue to host the games.
I wonder if we see Jim Rome come back to a regular spot on the FAN.
I assume Marek will be back in the fall as well.

Yeah I don't think you will get unbiased takes on sports radio which is why a lot of US stations hire personalities that are on different sides of the spectrum as disagreement can often lead to good radio. Singular takes like Jim Rome are take it or leave it as seen by how decisive his show is. I think what's happening to Edmonton is doing nothing but set up their fans for crushing disappointment. It's why you see that market turn on players and run them out of town. They just keep going on and on about how they are a top contender while ignoring their weaknesses. I think Edmonton should make the playoffs but I can see multiple scenarios where they finish first in the division or get the last wildcard spot.

Pinder was often pretty critical but his opinions were always backed by information and stats. In general, I would say he was on the more negative/pessimistic side but it was never baseless. It's what made him good at the job. Strong but informed opinions make for good radio.

He did say on his final day that he had to portray a certain character whether people liked it or not
