Tkachuk was gone regardless of what Johnny did. His move to the USA was in the works since the day he was drafted. There was nothing the Flames could have done to keep him as they probably offered him as much or more than he's getting paid by the Panthers.

Tkachuk played the PR game perfectly, including using Gaudreau as part of an excuse.

I see you're mocking the fact that I think that Krahn is wrong, and just telling you what you want to hear, and ignoring the fact that Gaudreau earned free agency and played by all the rules. It was the Flames that did not extend him when it was prudent to do so.
As is your schtick, you choose to be a sarcastic a-hole instead of actually making a point. Congratulations. I'll get you next time, Gadget. Next time.

Yep, that's what I got from it. Brad's reaction to reporters asking if things changed in discussions on Tkachuk's end when Johnny left fro free agency was very telling. It was a very pointed, direct answer stating that nothing had changed in negotiations regarding Gaudreau leaving, while Tkachuk's camp carefully and softly implied that it did have an effect on his decision, as if they were waiting to see how competitive the Flames would be before deciding.
No one was likely happier about Gaudreau leaving than Matthew, as if Johnny re-signed than Matthew would have still left but would have looked like someone leaving a strong playoff team so therefore just wanting to leave Canada as soon as possible.

I think Gaudreau leaving definitely gave the flames more leverage when it came to Tkachuk. No way he wants to play in his contract year on the flames without Gaudreau. If he stayed Tkachuk is probably looking at another great season and a bigger payday, once he was gone Matt needed to cash in this off season.

The point of radio is to have an opinion and air it.

Krahner apparently made an immature decision to not get vaccinated and it nearly killed him, so I'm not terribly interested in his criticism of another guy who actually made a decision that was best for his family.
On the Tkachuk front, I think we all forget that he was eligible to sign an extension since UFA day last year, just like Gaudreau. Of course there was far less urgency so it flew under the radar, but I suspect the Flames had more sense of Tkachuk's position than it may have seemed.

This would also explain why they may have floated him around during the Eichel trade talk

Imagine having Huberdeau and Gaudreau on both sides of Lindholm.

Had this happened, I think you have to play Gaudreau and Huberdeau on separate lines, but, my God, what a one-two punch that would have been.

Doesn't look right. Still wish he was a Flame.

He didn’t give anyone a chance to try. If he had told the Flames he was leaving after the season there probably could have been a nice package built around him to a place he really wanted to go for 8 years and more money ala his former linemate.

Sure he did.
There was an offer from New Jersey, dont know what happened to that. But beyond that?
I wouldnt be surprised if we learn later that his agent fumbled this like an 8-year old at the first day of Football Camp.
I do wonder if his agent thought he had his finger on the pulse of interest and was out to lunch.
