The TikTok viral effect is crazy. My friend’s son released a song two years ago that went viral and within months had tens of millions of replays and remakes on TikTok. I don’t think any of his other songs has hit 200k. It a winner-take-all platform. Reusing the same mega-popular song is the whole point.

And quite frankly, I think you're missing a key point here.

Forcing you to slow from 50 to 30 also does a very minor but important and singular thing.

It makes you actively pay attention.

Just setting it and forgetting it at 40 could just as easily mean they're just not paying attention. Which is the whole point of Playground Zones.
There is a distinct lack of evidence that there are increased collisions around playground zones relative to the rest of a residential area.

Secondly remembering to slow down and increasing your active scanning for risks are independent activities.

What are we even discussing here now lol?

I dont particularly disagree on any major point, just people that go too slow in some areas and too fast in others grind my gears.

I think they're strugglers and if theres one thing that grinds my gears its strugglers.

My argument is these people are smarter and not struggling. In fact their leaders . You brought up playground zone switching was good so I countered why it’s stupid.

Yeah, as admirable as “I’m going 40 no matter what because it’s the most logical speed!” is, the rest of us are just trying to get from point A to point B safely AND within the rules so being a Freeman on the Road style struggler just makes you a bad driver no matter which was you cut it. Part of driving is obeying the rules of the road and minding other people doing the same, so the arguments of a 16 year old with a learners permit saying “I’m a leader, not a follower” don’t really cut it for most adults.

“The speed limit is wrong” cool, great, please writer a letter to someone and in the meantime follow it like most everyone else.

And my argument is that I vehemently disagree. I dont think we're going to find common ground here.

Especially not with a filthy 'their/they're' transgressor.

Right. Predictable driving is safe driving. I don't get annoyed when you only do 40 because I think you're going "too slow" or "too fast". I'm annoyed because I don't know what the #### you're doing and I assume you don't either.

- ignores reaction time and physical foot movement
- brand new car, brand new brakes
- presumably brand new tires, optimally inflated (I also wonder if they use summer tires, which would definitely stop faster than all-seasons, too)
- no additional passengers or cargo (presumably a driver and telemetry rig? not sure on their exact methodology)
- brake application probably isn't typical of real world driving...I'm guessing they slam down 100% and let ABS sort it out (which an actual driver may/may not actually do)
- perfectly flat and clean test track

I'm sure the graphic I posted is on the high side, but when you start factoring in real-world variables the consumer report link is meaningless for anything other than comparing between cars.

Regardless of the exact distance, 30kph stopping distance is going to be roughly half of 50kph (which will be about 45% shorter than 70kph, which will be about 40% shorter than 90kph, etc.)

Do people really actually drive slower than the flow or road speed their whole life due to irrational worry about their urgent stopping distance?

Better tape a printout of that graph on the dash.

My father-in-law drives slower than traffic because he believes slower=safer with no grey area. I'm actually forbidden about discussing driving with him after I ruined an entire Christmas dinner and made everything awkward for 20 people by arguing with him.

My in-laws have a pattern that they didnt recognize until myself, as an outsider, pointed it out to them.

And its insane.

They will be talking about some place they've been recently and somehow, without fail, the conversation veers towards what is the best way to arrive at that destination from various different starting points.

Yeah. They talk about directions to random locations.

"You see what you gotta do is you take the...."

And on and on it goes. Half of their conversations are about directions to places.
