Gary Sutter had a great slap shot! Big wind up on the one timer pass from big big Al. Can still see it in my mind over and over.

Does it seem weird to anyone else that we have so many contracts expiring in two years?
Backlund
Lindholm
Toffoli
Dube
Rooney
Pelletier
Hanifin
Tanev
Zadorov
Kylington
... and that's just the folk that I would presume to be on the active roster. I dunno, half the roster needing new contracts at the same time seems like a bad idea (even two years out).
Edit: Nevermind I checked, it's a little on the high side but most teams have similar levels of expiration in one year or another. Albeit most of them have their most important players locked up longer then we do.

I doubt it’s a coincidence. That seems to be the window Treliving has established before retooling or remaking the roster.

Reminder of some Flames trivia.
The remaing 3 pieces from the Curtis Glencross trade tree? Shilly , Hanifin and Lindy.
We mined some muthertrucking rare earth metals by trading Glencross man. Hoo weeeee

I'd like to see some "calmness" to his game this year. With the incredible strides that he made, it always seemed like he had a bit of a case of the jitters. He oozes ability, if he can just calm his game down, he's really going to be an incredible draft pick.

Hanifin as an American and good trade bait is the perfect candidate to upgrade our top 6 forwards, imo. Wouldn't be surprised at all to see it happen if Weegar is signed reasonably soon.

Yeah, as good as Backlund has been for this team in two years that cap hit being free will be a godsend.

We can use some of the money for Lindholm's raise

I hope he re-signs for 2-3 years at around 3 mil per. He is very useful and versatile. Doubt you could replace him for less than that and having hopefully your 3rd line center making that much has nothing wrong with it. In 2 years they move on from Toffoli and Rooney to free up money from Lindholm

I'm disappointed it's only a 2 year deal. I understand the criticism of his defensive play but I think OK is the most dynamic defender we have with the best chance of becoming a game breaking Dman.
He might not be that steady presence you like to see from a top pairing guy but I love his wheels and his zone entries. Would like to see him taking over Johnny's spot entering the zone on the the PP.

He needs to be more reliable. You can’t take over the team if you are only good 50% of the time.
It’s clear Treliving/the Flames are not convinced.

Backlund may still be a great 3rd line option at that time, but keep in mind he will be 35 when he signs his next contract. We may (and hopefully do) have an internal option to replace him by that time, rather than signing him until he's 37/38.
