Yup, dream scenario is they pick 9th overall for 2025, continue to be bad through the season and get the 1 OA for 2026

Panthers made a fine play turning 28/29 year olds in the last year of their deal into a 24 year old who signed for 8 years is a solid deal for them.

The fact the Flames have Huberdeau locked up just makes this a massive win especially when you consider the lack of leverage Treliving had in the negotiation. Works out very well for the Flames to find a team who was willing to shake it up the way they did.

I hope the Panthers hit a rough patch in 25 and 26 so the Flames can add another key piece in the draft. I believe the Flames will get Weegar signed and let’s see what Schwindt turns into.

Just an incredible deal all things considered. Glad Chucky really wanted to go to Florida.
I don't know. I would probably be looking to move that pick sooner than later to make this team better and fully exploit this window.

Going to be real interesting to follow these players next season.

Tkachuk put up 104 points with Lindholm and Gaudreau
Huberdeau put up 115 points with Bennett and Duclair

They Panthers will have to stick Tkachuk with Barkov if they want him to produce that much O again IMO

He won't get 40+ and 100+ playing with Bennett and Duclair, I don't think

The only player who won't regress? Huberdeau.

Lindholm was the Lynchpin all along.

Yeah, but he’s a ******* unicorn. A couple weeks ago I was about ready to put my fist through the radio or computer hearing or seeing that.

For once, the Flames benefitted from the eastern media bias that usually costs them award votes. A lot of these pundits calling Tkachuk a unicorn were watching his highlight reels rather than actual flames games.

Umm... if you guys don't think a 40g, 100pts, 23 year-old, 200' power forward with superstar pedigree hitting the market is about as rare as seeing a unicorn, then I'm not sure what sport you've been watching.

Or not, and keep an actual prospect pipeline going so there aren’t any more “windows”.

I'm not sure that Tkachuk even reaches 100 with Barkov.

I wonder if Gaudreau would've produced 115 points with Bennett and Duclair. Probably not with Brunette as coach.

Have to thank Seravalli for that, he's the one who was always describing Tkachuk that way.

Tkachuk is big time over rated...media is acting like Gaudreau/Tkachuk are the greatest two way players in league history.

Lindholm, Sutter, Markstrom, and the D were all big factors. Anyone remember the previous season?

Tkachuk is the star we lost who I won't really miss. He was not nearly as special as Johnny.

As has been noted, he’s not 23. I don’t really think he’s a power forward either. You need better wheels to be classed as that, and he’s not really known for crunching defencemen against the back boards. He’s a pretty big body irritator who has good hands, protects the puck well and passes well, especially from behind the net.

As for his stats - he’s done it once. Speaking of lineage, there was another player who ripped 50 goals and just under 100 points at age 23. Then he reverted back to being a regular PPG guy.

Especially in the playoffs.....when he's flipping hats at his team mates .....or.....picking his spots horribly busting up his hand ao he's useless to the team.....but hey.....this is what Tkachuks do .

Right Matthew?

It's funny, I never really heard 'power forward' used to describe him very much until this off-season. He's above average size, but I can't think of a lot of plays where strength/size/power were his competitive advantage.

Also, he'll be 25 before Santa next comes. Don't open another can of age rounding worms.

Lindros was the benchmark IMO. Iginla was a power forward. Getzlaf. Cam Neely. Todd Bertuzzi in his prime. Hell, Lucic in his prime. Keith Tkachuk.

I’d call Brady a power forward more than Matthew.

True.

I think now they call anyone who’s a forward and big a power forward. But I always picture a power forward busting in off the wing on the rush, hitting defencemen to obtain the pick and fighting for their teammates.

Matthew Tkachuk is not a 200ft player, he was the third best defensive player on a line of three players
