There is no chance they give it to Monahan. No one will be wearing it this fall, Huberdeau eventually. Tanev can get some considertion. No thanks to Backlund.

I could see Backs taking a reasonable contract in 2 years. He'll be 35 and who wants to uproot a young family at that point? He'd be my pick. Not just for longest tenured Flames, he has been an alternate for years and it makes sense.

I could see Backlund, Huberdeau, Tanev and Monahan rotating this year. Can't decide between Andersson and Mangiapane until Monahan is back in the lineup. Then pick between Backlund and Huberdeau in a year.

I feel like your captain should be the player that's going to be on the ice the most, as well is the player you rely on to make the biggest plays during the key moments of the game/season.

He may be the longest serving player, but Backlund most certainly should not be the forward with the most ice time on a game to game basis. If anything, he should be getting 3rd line and special team minutes.

Huberdeau should be getting the most minutes as a forward generally, is the best player on the roster, and the face of the franchise now. He should be the captain.

If he wants it Then Backs is the man. If not give it to Tanev.

Lindholm.

He's been around for a while now, seems fully committed to the city, is one of the top centres in the league and he's incredibly handsome .

I would pick Tanev, yet think the Flames pick Backlund.

Giving it to anyone else is kind of a slap in the face to Backlund after his time spent here.

Let’s pretend he does, and is a 30/30 guy (hypothetical, calm down). Lines could look like:
Huberdeau-Monahan-Mangiapane
Coleman-Lindholm-Toffoli
Dube-Backlund-Pelletier
Lucic -Ruzicka-Lewis

I put Monny with Hubey because he needs a playmaker to be effective.

… but Monny probably tops out as a 40 pt 3C going forward, so this is irrelevant.

I expect they will not appoint one this season, at least at the start.

I would think that a number of players may ultimately lay claim to it, but Monny will not be one of them.

Now, if he proves himself healthy and productive, who knows?

I'm a little surprised but not disappointed in hearing #23's name called.
Regardless of what happens to Sean (and I'm cheering for him) I hops to see him regain some confidence through the season, stay healthy , make playoffs and continue producing in any way possible.

The thing I like the most is the fact not everyone has written him off.

I feel bad for the guy . If i busted my broken ass for years and chose to play my hardest Regardless of my injuries..... that I would hope stands for something.

Holy im stoked .....we got Flames , Wranglers , Hitmen HOCKEY HOCKEY Hockey!!!! Wooooooo. Can't get enough fellas.

Gah, I hope not... I don't like not having a Captain. On the first day of the season I want to know who get's to raise the cup first on the last day of the post-season.

Rotating is lame. Just name Backlund as captain.

So they are going to give it to a guy who has been part of the leadership group for quite a while now and the team has been successful how in that time? He is also a player who struggles to start and didn't really show up until the start of the playoffs last year. That would be such a historic Flames thing to give the C to Backlund. The more I think about it the more I think it should be Huberdeau. The guy is so passionate about winning and being a leader and its a fresh new voice leading the way. That is what this group could use.
