I agree with your take on Backlund.
I'm a fan of his, but he still battles consistency issues and a bit soft.
Lindholm doesn't strike me as someone who wants the C.
He's part of the leadership group but not the front and center guy in my eyes.
My captain picks are Tanev or Coleman.

I'd give Backlund the C, and then in 2 years (if Backlund isn't back), I'd transition that over to Huberdeau.

Backlund is inconsistent offensively for sure but I find his compete level to be always pretty high, and would never identify him as a soft player.

They're not going to strip anyone of their A, I don't think.

In the leadership group there should be someone from the younger set. I think Andersson is in the mix.
Also, Monahan could be Captain in absentia, and made effective when he's back in the lineup.

Wonder who would be captain if players voted like in minor hockey. Probably Backlund or Tanev, maybe Lucic or Monohan

It wasn't always one of the coaches kids for you?
That was my experience for the majority of minor hockey anyways.

From Day 1 Monahan had future captain written all over him. He just seemed like the boring, hard working, score big goals, lunchbox carrying put the team on the back kind of guy. It really is too bad injuries have derailed his production so bad. I really hope he gets his game back. Unfortunately it’s nearly impossible to make him the in focus team leader at this point. If it doesn’t go well for him with health and confidence, unfortunately he will have a tough time sticking in the lineup, and a team needs it’s captain playing.
For me Lindholm makes a lot of sense. Nothing wrong with Backlund or Huberdeau either but they can be great assistant captains. Lots changes every year in the business and long term after his commitment there is no reason to think it won’t eventually be huberdeau but short term, Elias has put his heart into it and believe he would be best suited.

Nope never, though I only played 2 seasons of midget (had to buy my own equipment), we voted both seasons and the coach's kid wasn't chosen.

Feel like we've run through this a few times.
Absolutely think it's got to be Lindholm or Huberdeau.
Might drive up Lindy's desire to extend here long term if he's given the honors too, plus I think he has earned the consideration.

I think they go without a Captain again this season, and will announce next summer.

Captain Kirk..... Muller.
Flames start a new trend by having an assistant coach become a captain.
