Hockey sticks is retrofitted junk. New purpose rather than it being garbage or collecting dust. You can use it to slide and pull things heavier than 5 pounds and probably 20-30 pounds easily without concern. It is more useful than the garbage claw. If it snaps, you likely have reserve sticks you can use.
I bought this one. The little knobby thing adds extra utility.

Bought? or stole that orange extension cord from someone’s yard…

Not sure how you use it to take off your sock and clean ceiling fans with it.

Yeah, not sure how I got that link. Who actually buys extension cords?

This is the proper one.

How do you drop a phone into an eavestrough in a way you need a grabbing claw to retrieve it? Do you mean storm drain?

I cut the broken blade straight to be a good scraper, but also to create a hook akin to an ice hook. It's basically like that knobby thing on the one you linked to snag things. For someone who needs to reduce bending down/reaching for small things, I can see why it's useful though.

Different uses I guess.

If you're grabbing small things at a distance, a grabby tool isn't bad with a 3 foot range and 3-5 pound weight limit. The claw isn't bad for some dainty work. I know for sure I wouldn't yank a hockey bag from a distance with one of those without consider it might not grip or I might damage something. Hockey stick I don't think twice.

A hockey stick is good for things over 5-6 feet away with a weight limit over 15-20 pounds. The stick is better designed for heavier duty work and if sawed off at the right angle it can be used for scraping/dirtier applications and snagging heavier items. You can also jab to unblock a snow thrower and shoot/sweep away larger ice chunks with it as well.

I usually do more heavier duty applications so it's retrofitted hockey stick over grabby tool for me. I've literally only ever used the grabby tool for garbage purposes.

ok... this just reminded me of cp from years past... anyone else remember the member that was going off about someone stealing his extension cords from his yard... then another member made a post in the buy & sell section looking to off load a bunch of used extension cords??
man that was funny!

Long story. But yes, if I didn’t have one available, the only other choice was to push the phone to fall.

You're lucky to have one on hand then. I wouldn't have a grabby claw on hand, so I'd likely attach a ton of duct tape to a stick and try and attach the phone like a crazy man on a roof playing a crazy claw game.

Lol, that would be my Plan B as well. You know, engineers and duct tape, love forever. Wanna know why I got it? Dropped a record cleaning brush behind my audio setup. Retrieving it was impossible without moving the whole setup forward and then back in. “I wonder if there was a device to grab hard-to-reach objects?” I asked Google…

I realize this may be controversial, but somehow my youtube algorithm showed me a couple of videos of service members surprising their wife or kids at a sports event like a football game returning home from overseas.

I think service members should absolutely be honored, but if I had a family member serving overseas and they came back to surprise me, I would much rather that reunion take place in private first, rather than in front of thousands of fans.

But clearly lots of people think the other way.

Eh...to each their own.

I would imagine that those people either know their family well enough to know whether they'd like that or not or the whole thing is staged.

Effing Uber Eats. Order never arrives, no call or email, and their customer service is just a chat bot loop. No refund or anything offered. 0/10 do not recommend.

Some of them are legit but man are there ever a lot of staged videos these days on the internet and social media.

We live right under a flight path. Covid was so nice, I almost forgot about it. Back to one plane every 2 minutes most of the evening.

Yeah, don't live on a flight path. You get used to it sure, but it never stops being constantly ####ing annoying.

Why do my running shoes randomly start squeaking every once in a while? They're dry, clean, weren't squeaking an hour ago... wtf?

Parents who don't wear helmets when they ride bikes (or similar activities) with their kids. Great behaviour modelling.

The woman I just saw looked like she'll probably need one given her tenuous control of her bike.

I don't eat much fast food these days but I was so shocked I had to say "sorry, I can't justify that" and not order from Pizza 73 the other day. I do like their golden crispy wings if it's late and need some food on the way home.

20 wings was $16.50 back in the day when I was getting them regularly. Then it was up to $20 and I only grabbed them sparingly. Earlier this week I needed food late and had a craving and didn't care about the $20 price. The guy said "that'll be $24.53".

I was literally like "oh sorry, just the 20 golden crispy wings". He was like yeah that's the price now, we just upped it last week due to inflation. Like wow.

I find that fast food has gone up way past inflation. If you're really savvy at the grocery store (and shop at least 3 separate places) you can really limit the damage inflation does there. Fast food meanwhile seems like it's gone up 50% higher than inflation.
