For sure. Many people seem to care though. It's just a different road.

Honestly, if he ages like Thornton, he's still going to perform well on the tail end of his contract and this contract will be worth all its value.

Now, I doubt the Flames will be as competitive in 5 years as they are now, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

Well, it should be.

So skimming this thread most people seem to like the signing, a small few don't.

And then a handful of posters telling the small few that something is wrong with their personality or they are not real fans.

Barkov seems to be a good buddy but don't think Brad can pull that one off.
Do we have any more Zito-Generational players?

Maybe one day I'll figure out how to read Micah Blake McCurdy's graphics.

In 5 years Coronato will be putting up 40 goals while Wolf is winning his second consecutive Vezina trophy.

Years 7, 8, 9 of this partnership might be rough, but after three cups in 6 years... I'll take it!

not really this just why worry so about 7,8,9 years down the road...so much can happen between now and then.

you could rebuild for decades and not get a 2nd in the league scorer and even if you do at some point they will want to be paid. People would just end up worrying forever.

We have a star player willing to sign long term with your favorite team, enjoy it or really what's the point.

Would 9.5x8 really make that much difference in 8 years.

Also face facts, Flames need to pay a little more for players than some teams

There were media saying today that Schwindt could be playing NHL games as soon as this season too.

Very little of that. But, if you look hard enough you’ll find that in just about every thread.

I think we have a group of excited fans and a group of “show me” fans. This thread has actually been pretty respectful all around

He played a couple last season, so it wouldn't be that crazy to see him get more this year. It should be standard progression.

Very happy to see the Flames were able to extend Huberdeau. He is now the face of the franchise and I look forward to purchasing his jersey!

You need to pay your superstars in this league. I think he will be quite productive easily until age 35, maybe even beyond that given his skillset is based a lot off of IQ and passing. This also will help convince other plays to either extend in Calgary or sign as FAs. Absolutely huge as an organization to get this deal done. I was ok with Gaudreau signing this contract so to get Huberdeau is even better!

Now what is next for the squad, maybe signing Kadri at 7 mill annually and dealing Lucic / Valimaki. Or potentially a bigger deal seeing one of our better D for a top 6 forward. Either way the summer started out so depressing as a Flames fan. Now they have a legit star extended and added a top pairing D who I hope is extended soon. Add in the prospect Cole Schwindt who looks like he could be a solid third line C and a 1st round pick and things are looking a lot better. By the time the flames make that selection, Florida could easily be on the downturn, especially with how their GM is just throwing away assets (See Giroux and Chiarot deals). Florida barely has any useful picks or prospects to add at the deadline. I hope they compete for a couple years and then absolutely collapse so the Flames end up with a top 10 pick (or better in 2026).

And you are right also. Its just all the years of mediocrity makes some yearn for a different path. I would like to see the team do a full tear down rebuild and start over at some point and felt like this was the best chance. I don't hate the team and management for the route, but just had that hope for something different. Calgary needs to win the division and rub it in everyone's face this year. In everyone I just mean the Oilers.

Another analyst's take. Good discussion in the comments. Is bad defensively, not great in transition, but good once zone entry is gained.

Wouldn't say he's bad defensively but certainly isn't great in transition. He makes his living in the offensive zone, well, that's pretty easy to say lol.
