Measured risk taking back two pending UFA’s, but that uncertainty was also why we got the additional assets in the deal (along with age gap between Hubs and Tkachuk).
This exact scenario was the way to maximize assets from the Tkachuk deal and he pulled it off. Although there will be critics I don’t think anyone could have reasonably expected the flames to end up with more accumulated value coming back.
Great work by the GM.

This guy doesn’t get enough credit. Had to make one of the biggest pivots in franchise history after his top two point-producing players decide to part ways. Grabs a winger that put up the same amount of points as Gaudreau and also a top pairing defender in Weegar, a prospect, and a 1st for a player that didn’t want to be here anymore.

Have to state the obvious about Tre and the fact that the Johnny signing falling through seemingly during the last hours of free agency and answering the call for interviews after this unfolded, fired up him and Murray Edwards in a big time way.
Wow, I can’t recall this type of activity in an off-season especially if he’s able to lock up Weegar at some point.
Incredibly reassuring knowing Sutter is behind the bench with this roster.
