If they sign Kadri we can have our own Benn and Seguin in a few years!

Weegar is going to be jealous. I bet he’ll sign an extension in the next two weeks.

They’ll both be at the same press conference when they get to town.

But what were the chances that his value would go up?

Anyway, it's an exciting signing, but I'm mixed on it. I don't mind this contract if they go out and get a legit top 6 C. Then they can really be competitive. With the team as is, the contract might just lock them into the 10th-20th place Flames zone for the foreseeable future.

I dont think ppl know how good Hubey actually is. He is literally a bigger Johnny, but better vision and passer. Johnnys got him on Edgework.

Rantanen signed a 6 year deal at age 22, for $9.25 AAV at a time when the cap was only barely creeping up. The deal only b ought 2 UFA years. And he made $12M in the first couple years.
22. Not 30.

Exactly. An unproven RFA. If he was a pending UFA Rantanen probably gets a similar deal.

Why have any immediate fun & success when you can have assurance of long term mediocrity?

Hey. You might very well be right. But we are lucky we have a team in front of us that is prioritizing winning right now. A lot of franchise fanbases would be envious

I really hope to eat crow on this. Like I really do, but it just doesn't look good.

Huberdeau is definitely a superstar.

2nd in total points last year (Behind McD)
3rd in total points over last 3 years (behind McD and Drai)

This contract will start hurting around year 4+, but our window is the next 3 years so #### it.

I'd be looking for another big forward acquisition, through trade or FA.
We're all in now

JH is closer to a star then a superstar

But I don’t know why that matters . Was there an option to get a superstar that JH prevented us from getting

And who is worried about what this looks like in 6 years ? 6 years ago the Flames had Backlund as the only ? Player who is currently on this team .

great news.

Basically took the money earmarked for Johnny and replaced him with a guy that is pretty much a wash...

just need to sign Weegar now, but I was more optimistic with him than I was with JH...

You are correct. I'm excited to start the season but feel like this is the same cycle again.

Either too much AAV or too much term for my liking, but I suppose it's no surprise they just reprinted the Gaudreau deal. I would have been happy to see a deal wait until Christmas if it was going to happen.

OTOH, that's a big piece in place, allowing the team to focus on other things, like building up the top 6 for a big run, likely in 2023-2024.
