It’ll never happen. But could you imagine our top line if we could pry JT Miller out of Vcr?

You're right.
SJ just signed a d-man off his ELC to $3.25 per for 4 years.

D is way more valuable. If anything, TOR would have to add a pick to get Weeger.

Everyone will be over the cap floor right now just by signing their own RFAs

Anaheim won't be a cap team either, so adding his 5.25 million cap hit won't make a difference to them. What they are concerned with is his actual salary, which is $875K (1 million - Oilers' share lol).

875K is just above entry level right now. If they are interested in Lucic, it is because he can take a regular shift and protect those kids they have. 875 is really a bargain for Lucic right now if you don't care about the cap space - and Anaheim doesn't. I would be shocked if it costs assets to move Lucic right now. I am not sure if he will be moved, but if he is, I would be a bit surprised to see him go with sweeteners. If anything, it will be future considerations or even a small add in return.
The main thing with teams like Anaheim or Arizona is they likely plan to sell guys at the trade deadline. So they still need to say over the floor after deducting someone like Klingberg and Shattenkirk. That said - pretty much anyone trading for those guys would need to unload salary to take them on but it still gives them flexibility in trading if they don't have to constantly worry about being under the floor.

Ya, or a two for two type of deal, where we upgrade at forward, and the other team upgrades on D but they still get a forward back, and we get a d man.

Especially with a potential cloud hanging over Dube.

The deal I have been thinking about is

Dube+Hanifin to Philly for Konecny+Dman (Sanheim or Provorov) if it is Sanhiem then we have another player 1 year from free agency. Maybe the Flyers look to keep him and get futures at the deadline or maybe they would rather not have to deal with that and move him now. Konecny has 3 years left of cost control and would be the key piece for the Flames. They would be selling low on him as he has not been the same player that scored 61pts before the shutdown in 2020.

Dube had a very strong finish to the season last year and has 2 more years then is a RFA again so plenty of control for Philly. Hanifin has 2 years left so more time for Philly if they move Sanheim or money off the books quicker if it is Provorov. Provorov has seemingly not performed since he inked his big deal at 6.75M and has been rumored to be on the block.

Philly is 2.5M over the cap so either trade opens up more than enough space for them. The Flames likely need a taker for Lucic to make the deal work.

When looked at as a whole:

Huberdeau = Gaudreau
Konecny << Tkachuk
Provorov/Sanheim < Hanifin
Weegar >> Gudbransen
Pelletier < Dube (at least next year)

It would certainly be an interesting retooling by the team if they could pull something like that off

I don't expect anyone would take Dube until the cloud hanging over him is resolved.

Has he been officially implicated? I thought he made a statement that he was not involved and has cooperated with the police throughout the investigation?

The wording that was used did not say not involved in the incident.

“Dillon did not engage in any wrongdoing, and he co-operated fully with the independent London Police Service investigation in 2018, through which all players were then cleared of any wrongdoing,” wrote Dubé’s agent, Dave Cowan.

Dillon Dube, Toronto Star, July 18: his agent Dave Cowan told reporter Kevin McGran that “Dillon did not engage in any wrongdoing, and he co-operated fully with the independent London Police Service investigation in 2018, through which all players were then cleared of any wrongdoing.”

Did not engage in wrongdoing

Based on the investigation which has since been re-opened.

I'd feel better if he issued a statement like those we've seen most recently.

me too, that statement really doesn't point to him not being one of the people that participated.

I just hope that he was the initial person and not one of the group that joined in...

The initial person invited everyone to join, and then followed up the next day to ensure the police stay out of it. The initial person is in the worst position here.

I just don't read as much into these statements as some do. They are all implicated, to some degree. Hopefully the new investigation will shed some actual light.

Wasserman Hockey also released a similar statement for 6 players on that WJC team. One of them was Kyrou, who wasn’t in London when the incident happened.

Can’t really make conclusions from that statement one way or another.
