That will be very attractive to the cheaper teams who need to make the cap floor.

But Lucic also has a NMC so he has to be up for it.
Before they signed Klingberg the Ducks were below the cap floor, now they're fine. I thought that would have been a fit for Lucic since he still has a home in California, but now there's probably less appeal for them to take him, we'd probably have to throw in a pick or prospect.
The only team below the floor currently is Arizona. Don't think Lucic would have much interest going there in a contract year, wouldn't help boost his stock for getting a contract next season.

Personally, always been a fan of Monahan. My hope, if not my expectation, is that he returns to action, gets super skating advice from the skating coach (can't remember her name) and has a "frickin" stellar season. Now that would be a treat for all of us!
He's been through a ton, and might also be felling a bit blue, missing his best buddy. Hope he comes through.

Necas would be a great target if they can get him. Would be the heir to Backlund's role.

Apologies if already shared -- could mean nothing, but Treliving from the Mangiapane article:
“You know, I always find the better you play, the more you get, in terms of getting more trust from the coaches and earning more responsibility. That’s sort of his next step. We’ve had some changes here and we’re still in the process of continuing to fill out our team, but he certainly is a guy who was leaned on last year …"
Nothing jaw-dropping, but could be an indication they're not done.

Ya, and Peter Loubardias doesn’t think they are done either. The other day he said he thinks the Flames are still trying to make a BIG move. I sure hope that happens.

Necas has all the makings of another potential lindholm swipe from Carolina. But I fear that is why they will not trade him to us. Also, the trade has to provide sufficient value for a 23 year old player with remaining upside, while not adding beyond ~1 million in salary for the coming season for Carolina.

I don’t think that should be a fear as we are the type of trade partner the Canes would like. We are out of conference and not really relevant to Carolina. Bennett flourished in Florida but we still traded Tkachuk there (I know a much different circumstance). At the end of the day we know Waddell and Treliving have done business so this should be a good sign.
I am not going to get excited about any potential move until Lucic is moved because the team can’t do much right now without clearing some cap. When it comes to Carolina I am not sure what they want or if the Flames have it.
I do think the Flames need a big move up front to solidify their roster for the year and return as a potential favorite to repeat as Pacific division champs.

I don't think Klingberg changes anything for them. They weren't going to acquire Lucic for free to reach the cap floor - there are a multitude of options on the market for them to take on sweeteners to make the cap floor. They trade for Lucic only if they actually want Lucic.
Anaheim won't be a cap team either, so adding his 5.25 million cap hit won't make a difference to them. What they are concerned with is his actual salary, which is $875K (1 million - Oilers' share lol).
875K is just above entry level right now. If they are interested in Lucic, it is because he can take a regular shift and protect those kids they have. 875 is really a bargain for Lucic right now if you don't care about the cap space - and Anaheim doesn't. I would be shocked if it costs assets to move Lucic right now. I am not sure if he will be moved, but if he is, I would be a bit surprised to see him go with sweeteners. If anything, it will be future considerations or even a small add in return.

Right now, they only have 11 forwards under contract who were NHL regulars last season, plus Ruzicka is an RFA who played 28 NHL games last season. Also, at this point, Monahan is still a question mark as to when he'll be ready.
Even if they hope for a player like Pelletier to make the jump, I think we'll see them add two more forwards with significant NHL experience -- probably one who can play in the top-6 and one to play in the bottom-6.
Depending on who they add, it will then determine what other moves they need to make. A player like Kadri likely means a big move or two. Someone like Stastny, Rodrigues, or Milano might be able to be added without needing to make as big a deal to clear space.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Valimaki moved to a team who needs to bolster its blueline in exchange for a player who is the forward equivalent of Valimaki -- young prospect who has struggled to find consistency at the NHL level who might benefit from a change of scenery.
Tanev's status is also still up in the air (probably moreso than Monahan). I know Treliving has said he's ahead of schedule, but considering the schedule said he could miss up to half the season, he could be ahead of schedule and still miss 10-20 games.

My gut feel is there’s a defenseman leaving for a winger. We have a surplus of defensemen.

Lucic now has a 10 team trade list.
I've mentioned this before, there is a way to keep him and remove the big cap hit, trade him to say Arizona along with a prospect for a late pick, have that team buy him out (cap hit $4,666.666) (real money $291k) and re-sign him as a free agent.

Lol that the Oilers are paying more than the Flames in real money for Looch.

If the Flames understand from Weegars camp, he intends to explore Free Agency next summer, I’d like to explore trading him+ for Nylander.

The beauty of having strength on defense is the value placed on any top 4 D in the league. Some Vancouver radio guys were noting that Vancouver has plenty of wingers to trade but that wingers have the least value in the league. A good D should net a really strong winger from the right club. NOT suggesting Vancouver just noting the comment that wingers have the least value in general.
Teams want Goal, D and Centers before filling out wings.

Nylander has very questionable work ethic and I find him quite overrated tbh.

Konecny or Necas would be a good fit. Flames are lacking on the Right side.

...has this been communicated anywhere, or are you saying this is an if/then hypothetical?
