Was he not playing through an injury in the playoffs? I seem to recall that, but could be wrong.

I'm not sure going long term with Kylington was the right play either. Nevertheless, I don't think it should be called excellent work by the GM, it's a deal that had to be made and I don't think either side came out ahead or behind where they were expected.

Personally, I would have dealt him to try and shore up the top 6. Maybe alone he doesn't get that done, but it would be the best path to giving the Flames real scoring depth again.

I'd guess it's far easier to trade Kylington signed for 2 years than unsigned heading into arb.

Glad he's getting an opportunity to prove there's more there while he improves.

I remember a certain d man we had who wore #2 and he couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat. Well they paired this guy with Gary Suter and those 2 were one of the best d pairs I've ever watched to this day.

Both were PP quarterbacks with bombs for shots and when it got nasty they could hold their own.

Absolutely ... just because we signed him before arbitration doesn't mean Brad's goal is to keep him, we don't know what his overall plan is... we signed MT going out the door because it gave us an advantage with the trade (and Florida wanted an 8 year contract). I think his goal is to keep him... but that's just my opinion on what I think his plan is.

True enough. But, then again, history shows quite clearly that you would be unwilling to admit to anything this GM does as "excellent work," so your own opinion on such matters will—as always—be taken with a prodigiously-sized grain of salt.

I think you'd be extremely surprised about this. Tanev plays his best with guys who can really skate.

Mackey is far from a burner and he's older than Kylington. I like him plenty but there's absolutely no reason to think an older player with fewer high-end attributes and merely decent AHL production is capable of being a suitable replacement in the top four.

And Scorp is probably Mackey's biggest fan...so this holds weight.

I wouldn't say I'm Mackey's biggest fan, but I like what he can do as a player. I think he can do pretty much everything Gudbranson can — he's steady, very physical, not afraid to drop the gloves, and can definitely score from the point.

But I don't see anything close to a stylistic fit with him on a pair with Tanev. Same deal with Valimaki.

Good short term deal. Kylington has only played basically one season, so we still don't know what he can be. If he elevates and needs a huge deal afterward, that will be a good problem to have, even though he'll be UFA.

Agreed, if he has a monster year maybe look at capitalizing on his value at the draft next year.

If I was Kylington and the only offer being made was a 1 year deal - I would just go ahead and take my chance at arbitration.

Last season was all about Kylington’s earning Sutter’s trust. I expect a big jump offensively this season.

Sutter had a really good slapper. Just not compared to Macinnis
