The stolen base from Vladdy was too aggressive - the Chapman one seemed to be a hit and run…maybe their aggression is a bit too transparent.
Selective aggression might be the best course.

Man. What a performance by Gausman. When he's on it's an absolute clinic.
Love the Jano clutch hit. They dont ask how. Just how many.

I agree that they’re not likely going to win it all but I do think they could win a playoff series against Seattle, Tampa, Cleveland, etc. After that, a series win in a best of five against the Yankees might be tough but you never know.

Stripling announced to the 15 day IL with a right glute/hip strain.
Wonder if they knew this was coming and that's why they got Mitch White

Anyone else still perplexed by the Whit Merrifield trade? I like the player and his versatility. He’s a contact guy with speed. That being said giving up two guys with big league potential for a guy who might not even play for you seems odd. It sounds like they didn’t even get any assurances that he will get vaccinated.
I know Castillo and Taylor aren’t big time prospects or anything but they can play.
To take that risk, but to not take a risk on bigger names and not willing to give up other prospects seems odd.
The only thing I can think is that they are still playing the long game here, knowing that their pool of players that can and are willing to sign in Toronto is limited so it will have to come from within or from trades. I agree with not giving up top prospects for rentals, not at this stage, they still have some runway on this window.

If he doesn't get vaccinated Atkins should be fired. The kind of irresponsibility that would imply is possessed by someone that shouldn't have the position that he does.
Yes I know that Merrifield isn't a big get and the prospects he moved aren't premium but the mindset that would allow him to do that isn't one that I want running the Jays.

You would have to hope he's agreed to get it before the trade, otherwise - yes - it makes no sense.

It's possible the Jays aren't disclosing it just due to medical privacy. Of course once he crosses the border we'll know he did, but we're not supposed to really know if he did or didn't. If MLB didn't have a Canadian team, we'd have no idea who is vaccinated or not.

What an absolute joke of a season for pitcher injuries.
As for the TDL, I'm not angry about it. I would have liked more, but understand that you can't force teams to make deals with you. When the ask for relievers is Moreno or Tiedemann you have to walk away.
I've been particularly down with this season, just because the team's pitching has been so god awful at times again (particularly the bull pen, but the starters have some black spots too). But this is year one in what is a 3-4 year window of being really competitive. There was no reason to make a trade like the one the Ms did. Reds fleeced a team just desperate for a play-off birth. A play-off birth that would see three games played in another country if they happened today. A series where their Cy Young winning ace would be ineligible to play.
I mean, sure, get in and anything can happen but it's just too much to pay for what could amount to less than a work week's worth of games.

No posts about today's game?
Yall didn't miss much. The blue jays roughed up the 1 inning opener for 30 pitches but only managed 1 run off him, then proceeded to be ice cold at the plate the rest of the game. Kikuchi wasn't too bad but only went 4 innings, giving up just 1 run. Most of the relievers were ok except Cimber who only managed 1 out and gave up a run before getting yanked mid inning.
I feel like I wasted 3 hours of my life. One of "those" Rays games.

I don’t think Bo should be hitting any higher than 6th in the lineup right now. He’s not very productive.
If healthy, I’d like to see:
- Springer
- Gurriel
- Vlad
- Teo
- Kirk
- Chapman
- Bichette
- Jansen
- Tapia/Merrifield
