Like this deal. If he is actually good - then pay him what he is worth in 2 years....if he is playoff Kyllington without Tanev, then replace him or sign him to a similar future deal.

This also lines up with when the cap is expected to make a pretty big jump, so it could work out for both sides. He can re-sign in a couple of years for a significant raise and not take up as much of the cap as he would if he signed that same deal today.

If he takes the deal signed and then cashes in as a UFA at $5M per season he makes $15M over the next 4 years. Maybe more.
If he takes your deal he makes $13M but loses that upside potential.
If I were him a 4 year deal would have had to start at $4M.

Again it is my opinion.
You express your opinion and are trying to argue?
I am trying to predict the future of this player and you are too. We disagree. Or do we?
I would of preferred a longer term contract.
Would he accept it? Was it offered? I dont know, you dont either.
Yet dont bash an opinion. Unless you can predict the future.

I think this is a good deal, I want to see him step up again this year, see if he can repeat how he played last year. It isn't like we can't sign him to an extension next summer if he has a standout season.
Good job Tre.

Was hoping his AAV was around 2.5 or less. This leaves plenty for a long term Mangi deal.
Two years is fine for term. Still not exactly sure if he is a true top 4 Dman to command bigger salary. Lets see how he does without Tanev some of the time. He did fall off a bit at end of season.
One of the few who can skate with McD.

It will be interesting to see how well he does if paired with Zadorov instead of Tanev. This is a good price and term to pay to get him to show if he can keep improving without Tanev.

Great! Yet try to say imo a lot more than attacking a post.
I would of tried to sign him longer at a little more money. Buy some ufa years.
You then say he could be leaving a fortune on the table? Sure!
Which is exactly why I would of liked a longer term contract.
What was offered I do not know. You dont know either.
Yet this walks the player right to UFA status.
I am not bad mouthing the player or the team or you.
I would of liked to sign him longer.
You dont say if you agree or disagree with me. You say he would want more money? I am sure he would.
What are we debating?
I would like to know.

I don't know what I did that was 'attacking the post'.
I outlined what I disagreed with including doing some estimated calculations. Where did I attack?
My point is simply that for him to give up UFA years I think you would need to pay him a lot more. I think increasingly players are going to try to reach UFA years as quickly as possible and bet on themselves to then cash in.
No where did I attack you.

I agree and with the addition of Weegar I just don’t see OK getting any pp time. If he’s 3rd pairing and doesn’t play well away from Tanev then it’s only a 2 year deal
With no pp time what are people hating this deal really expecting from him? 17 mins a night not on the pp is the worry he plays into a $7 mil deal? Just don’t see it

I think Kylington has a lot of potential, but I don't mind that we didn't buy any UFA years. I'd like to see him prove himself a bit more and see what he's like away from Tanev.
Tanev also mentored Quinn Hughes in Vancouver, so Tanev has a good track record of helping young D find their game.

I have loved Kylington since the draft, but he simply doesn't have the body of work for the Flames to safely gamble on buying more UFA years. I was critical of the Tkachuk deal for this very reason years ago.
Kylington may explode and make the Flames look foolish in the years to come, or he may regress and just have trouble being an NHL regular. I really like his skillset, and I personally believe he will continue to improve to the point where this is a bargain of a deal, but it is still only 1 consistently solid year beside one of the better defensive defencemen in the NHL. I would like to see more to gamble long-term here. Not every player ends up like Josi.

We're back in the 90s. Just a farm team for the rest of the league to get polished stars. Trash deal

He sure didn't look polished in the playoffs without Tanev.

His partner during those same playoffs has yet to even be signed to an NHL contract.
Almost as if "without Tanev" is an incomplete statement. You put Cale Makar with a #7/#8 defenseman and he would not look as good as he does with Devon Toews.

Yeah....you are 100% correct.
I dont understand what is happening here if one is not allowed to disagree and/or rebut what someones opinion is....isnt that what we do?
As for the deal....perfect. In my OPINION, OK gets 5M guaranteed...enough to sustain he and his families lives. Win.
The team gets another 2 years to truly determine if they have something in OK. It's up to him......win for the team.

Also people need to keep in mind that Treliving’s budget is tight. He spends to get UFA years from Kylington (a gamble) and has less money for Huberdeau, Mangiapane and Weegar (way less of a gamble)
