I use gmail, my dad uses gmail. My mom uses Shaw email. Tied to a service provider.

You give them your address at the beginning when you do it online and it tells you what speeds and plans you can get.

I think you can see on their website. Might have future communities dates as well

You'll know. They'll come to your door 3 times a month.

Is Telus going to update their outdated Optik boxes? After having the new wireless 4k Shaw ones that are 4" x 4" with Bluetooth remotes and a 30s startup it's painful using these decade old Optik boxes.
The worst part is that the boxes need to be hooked directly to the Telus modem, so I can't hardwire my own network without using the Telus modem as the backbone.
Anyways the internet itself (1gb vs 150mb) for 20$ cheaper was worth it. But yikes, get some new tv boxes that work at least as well as a cell phone.

Switched from Shaw to Telus.
Noticed my gaming ping drop 20ms
Saved $1300 over 2 years
Holy #### does Telus Optic TV interface suck compared to the Shaw voice activation controller. Small thing but god is it annoying.

It's that medium I'm starting to pirate once more because streaming services are basically becoming cable channel bundles all over again.

Just make sure you are CRYSTAL CLEAR with Telus, that you want to keep your Shaw email address when/if you switch. They royally effed us over when we switched to Telus and we lost our Shaw email addresses because Telus didn't pay attention.
I have never had as many problems or had to escalate up the chain, with any company, as I have had with Telus, and that was from the very second we switched over. Nothing worked properly for 3 months, it took them almost a month to get me an email address, our machines regularly eff up - freeze, etc - and it takes HOURS to get through on the phone. Last year we had 3 different techs out 3 different times before the 3rd one finally figured out what the issue actually was and fixed it. We have never gotten the speeds they promised us and that we pay for, on Fibre. Not once. They just shrug.
This latest issue that we had, the online tech argued with me that I didn't have access to the accounts - you know, the ones I set up, made sure we were both listed on, have been for the last 2.5 years, etc etc. He was such an ass about it, I finally hung up on him and I haven't bothered phoning back.
I am on Shaw's website right now, researching plans, as we are going back to them as soon as we settle on which plan. We were with them for almost 20 years, we switched to Telus because we used to have an amazing rep at the CrossIron store, who always got us amazing plans. But, she's no longer working for Telus in any capacity, and after 2.5 years of nothing but hassles, we're just done with Telus. We rarely had any issues with Shaw & they were always easy to deal with - really liked their online chat service, we could do pretty much everything via chat & never have to call in.
Our Telus cell phone contracts are up in December, and we'll bundle our phones in with Shaw as well. If we never hear from Telus again, it will be too soon.

Agree with you 100%. We had a short term rental for about 5 months between houses, and the rental had Telus Optik TV. I would subscribe to SHAW 10/10 times just to avoid having to deal with Optik TV again. What a tire fire.

Telus literally had no control over your Shaw email address.

the ping on telus vs shaw is a huge difference, even on copper lines.
if you game and can get 150 speed with telus, even on copper, its worth while to consider against shaw.
if you can get 150 speed that is. id still take shaw 500 or over telus 75 copper, for instance, even with its high jitter and ping

Yeah but who is getting the 75? That's for the unwashed peasants.
For like $50.00 more you can get 1500/940 with Telus it looks like.
*disclaimer* - I don't really know what I'm talking about here. Just going off Telus' website.

Curious what the difference is...
I'm on Shaw and get 25ms to google.com, and 11ms to ucalgary.ca. If there are other good benchmarks to try, let me know. How much better is Telus?

There's a bit of overheard with DOCSIS. We're on Shaw fibre at the office w/ cisco router, I get 1-2ms pings to ucalgary.ca

Anyone who doesn't have Telus fiber available yet. That's the problem; if you're on Telus copper, that's about as fast as you can go.

Yeah, Telus isn't even an option for me in my area, because they want a ton of money for 75. I pay roughly the same with Shaw for their Fibre+ Gig.

When I switched to Shaw from Telus DSL they offered me $40/mth for internet and TV. Thing is the 10mbps upstream was killing us.
