I can almost guarantee that they are not bringing in kadri just to trade barzal. They are adding kadri to be on a team with barzal.

No, I don't think it he would have anything to do with it. I could just see other players and their agents being annoyed with the Islanders for doing things that way. It's completely within the rules though, so tough tits to them.

I say there is no chance in hell the Islanders move Barzel to make room for Kadri, but I’d they do, you’d have to think it starts with it first round pick not lottery protected.

If he has a signed deal with the Isles, he likely wouldn't be able to back out of it regardless of whether or not it's filed with the league.
I know Lou didn't file Parise's contract until late in camp last year, but I don't really see any advantage for him to do the same with Kadri this year.
Even last year, everyone knew it was happening even if it wasn't officially filed. If there is any truth to it, we'll likely hear it from legitimate sources soon either way.

Friedman said he didn't think these rumours of the Isles already signing Kadri were true though... that rumour came from Drance. I'm guessing these other people reporting the same thing had the same source too.

Didn't Kadri say he wants to play for only teams that could contend? Islanders could made the playoffs with him but contend? I know the Avs can't afford him and out of all the rumored teams the Flames would give him the best opportunity to contend... if the money was right on the Flames end. Or else the Isles offered the closest to what he wanted money wise

When players say they want to play on a competitive team, they mean one of the 20 or so teams that have a pretty good shot at the playoffs. I mean, I’m sure they’d prefer signing with one of the top 3-4 teams, but they almost never have cap space.

Term will be the key when this is announced. I like the player but it's going to be diminishing returns year over year for the rest of his career and they already have Coleman in a contract paying him into his mid-30's and whatever happens to Weegar and Huberdeau I would expect deals into their mid-30's and you don't want a major chunk of cap space invested into a handful of players that are all winding down their careers.
