Avs had zero. TB had one. And before someone says that Mackinnon would have but for injury, yes, but he wasn’t in the lineup and isn’t that the point?

Would rather keep Lucic over Monahan. Who would’ve thought…

It felt almost like the goals were coming too easy last year almost. Then when they faced Edmonton they felt they could keep up on the goal scoring and out score the goaltending s**ting the bed. Obviously this didn't work for the top line or the team. Maybe losing that cheat code of a top line will refocus this team on what made them the most effective - solid checking.

To me it’s dominos, Treliving has a lot to consider now, I think he’s definitely in on Kadri but he needs to be careful and think about next year too especially if he’s seeing Huby and Weegs as long term parts of the core. RFA’s are first things first, he’s gotta get Mang and Kylington figured out and see where he’s at from there. I think that’s when you could see Lucic moved and I still look at the ducks as a prime suitor because of their cap space and their youthful lineup. Lucic would be a welcomed policeman for Zegras, Drysdale and the like and with Pat suggesting a sweetener wouldn’t be required it’s an exciting proposition. I think we still see some movement on this roster for sure, though Kadri is an older player and we’ve already been twice bitten with Brouwer and Neal I think he’s simply a different and better player in a prime position. I haven’t always liked Kadri’s decision making, he’s a dirty player many plays over, but if the flames window is the next 3-4 years he’s a piece that brings a lot to the table and has a little more to give yet. Slowly I’m coming around more and more to the thought of Kadri and feel it could really diversify the lineup and scoring potential throughout, especially because Sutter is all about pairs.
Huberdeau - Kadri - Coleman/Toffoli
Mangiapane - Lindholm - Coleman/Toffoli
Pelletier - Backlund - Dube
Rooney - Ruzicka - Lewis
Phillips
Monahan?? Just not sure how he’s doing yet, two hip surgeries is a massive set back at any point in a career. I’m pulling for Mony!
That’s a pretty fun lineup

Totally, those career seasons were fun but there were a lot of 5-1 and 6-2 games....and 9-5/9-6 lol
Top guys racked up lots of points in those contests

When Flames won, most of them were blowouts so did they really need those 40 extra goals?
They were second in goal differential but 6th in the league. Rangers were 7th with 110 points but almost minus 40 compared to Cgy in the goal differential.
Ok ok some will say that the two spankings they recieved to the hand of the Flames did not help.

The Flames were 3rd in goals against last season. And the notion now is we need to change into a stingy team?
Even if you think that the Flames - Gaudreau/Tkachuk + Hubby/Weegar will mean 60 less goals for the Flames offense next year, the same defensive performance means the Flames finish with a +25 goal differential.

While true, there's a big difference between between turning a 1-0 lead after the first into a 5-0 lead and coasting to a win, versus defending a 1-0 lead for 40 minutes. When you know you're one mistake away from a tie game, it's a lot harder to play that decisive, aggressive style that leads to dominant shot differentials. Whereas with a 3- or 4-goal lead, it's much easier to keep a demoralized team off the board.

Also if they could have traded lucic without a sweetener the flames probably would have already done it. I love lucic but $5 million for a 4th liner is on no teams desires even with intangibles .

Treliving won’t move lucic until he has another deal in place to bring in another player. Lucic still brings value to the team and moving him out without having a replacement piece weakens the team. So until Treliving comes up with a deal that requires moving salary out, I don’t think anything will happen with lucic.
Monahan on the other hand will require some creativity. Seravalli said there were teams that would take him on but hard to see how it happens in the current market. Only way I can see him going out is if we take some money back. Have to hope a team thinks he can bounce back. Probably looking at a non contender who have some dead money that they might bury in minors (like a John Moore in Anaheim). Or another player coming off a tough season or injury (Jonathan Drouin, Paul Byron, Donskoi, etc). Probably ideal to take someone back with only 1 year on deal. You might get a taker for mony if you take on a player with lower hit but an extra year (Lebanc, Tyler Johnson?). Might be the difference in being able to bring in a player this year who can help but require cap gymnastics next year. And have to wonder if Johnny is asking the Columbus GM to bring his buddy over with him.

But it is FAR BETTER training for playoffs, when that IS the game.

I’d like to see Calgary move Monahan over Lucic and I’d be open to re-signing Lucic (obviously at a much lower price point).

Patrick Kane is an 80+ point player based on career averages. Do you think there's a chance?

Some good concerns for sure. I think we need to see what we have with this group. If they can still work hard and be a top team, great! If the team struggles to score Flames will have to look at that. Worrying prematurely is stressful; There were plen3t of people worried when we hired Sutter that the Flames would be less than the sum of thier parts..., but then they won the division. All those anxious and stressed posters stressed themselves and everyone else for nothing. Unfortunately some of those were just people trolling.
I get that you are worried and have some concerns, but a better approach would be to wait and see; Some of the guys on the team are a little older and havé more experience so there is room for improvement.

That’s why Kadri signing is a big discussion. He is the only FA left
The other option is to trade one of the top dmen. Hanifin or Weegar.
Whatever, I expect the Flames to go all in one more time on Sutter’s last year
|
I really couldn’t agree more. Mang is gonna definitely hit a slump this year. Allot of this goals last season were pretty lucky. Toffoli should see an increase or at least score 25.. still it enough.
I hope they don’t wast this last year of sutter

I think we should sign me. Sure, I don’t play hockey, and I’m 37. Sutter could work his magic with me, probably become a serviceable 3C.
