Call it that if you want. I read most of the interesting threads here, but rarely reply. I am indeed riled up about this topic, as evident by tonight's outburst and the one from the other night.
I think it's embarrassing how badly some people are talking about JG after how much of a community member he was, and the contract he took, and played for the Flames. It's just embarrassing, and I'm a bit bitchy about it.
Also, chiropracters are not doctors.
This, I am not aware of. I'm aware of Iggy, Gio, Stajan and Backlund. That's why when Stajan's game fell off I still have a soft spot in my heart for him. Gaudreau? I would appreciate it a lot if you can point me to that fact. Thanks in advance.
Gaudreau did the status quo as a Flames member with the community, and was good with kids and young fans, but I don't remember him being one of the ones that went above and beyond with community work? At least not beyond his fellow team team members.
Not a slight at all, he did good here. But i don't recall this being a specific narrative with Johnny.
Loved his commercials and when he was out in public, I will say that. But he kept to himself a lot too and wasn't exactly a constant presence out there, and the team could attest to that. They said he was a guy that kept to himself even into the later years when he became more of an on ice leader.

Well, the thing is that I don't like Jiri. I think he's holier than thou. He was a terrible mod, I'm glad he stepped down because I think he was getting way too overheated about little things, and now I have a 10 year opinion of him. Excuse me for snapping at someone I don't like. Isn't that ok on a message board? Do I have to like everyone? Am I not allowed to read 10 years worth of posts and see a pattern of arrogance?
There are quite a few posters I do not enjoy their posting, and I just put them on ignore. You don't have to like everyone, or Jiri for that matter. Debate with him, and if your really can't stand him, put him on ignore.

Actually, a message board is for info exchange and idea exchange, you know debate of different of opinions not snapping at people, TBQH. My 2 cents anyway.

Frothy retort. Johnny owes us nothing and we in turn owe him nothing. It is curious to see an elite athlete in his prime turn down winning and money. He had a good setup here and I don't think it's out of line to speculate that he simply made a bad decision. Based on what he's said in the wake of it, he doesn't seem like a guy with much clarity.
So it's not about who's owed. No one is. But he's certainly not owed any favor from flames fans, and that's what you're reading here.
Where did he turn down winning? Was there another offer from another team we haven't heard about?
Objectively the Flames with Johnny extended are significantly better positioned to compete than the budget BJs with Johnny, who push for 8th place, maybe.
It's not out to lunch. But "chance to win" would've been better wording than "winning". Because that isn't a sure thing.
From my personal standpoint, both Gaudreau and Tkachuk are one in the same. They both decided that they would rather be somewhere else.
I don't think one is any more deserving than the other in terms of ill feelings from fans. Sure, Flames managed to get assets for Tkachuk, but at the same time, he was basically telling Calgary "Not even one more single season here". Gaudreau did fully commit to every year in Calgary, and lets not forget that he could have easily threatened the Flames with going back for his senior year and becoming a UFA, forcing Calgary to trade him.
At the end of the day, they are essentially the same to me. They both wanted to be somewhere else rather than here. Neither one of them bad-mouthed the organization or did anything 'wrong'. I would say that they both played hard and entertained us while they were here, and now they are players on a different team. Neither one of them played here or won enough to leave us with much in the way of a legacy about them. Just two very good players in an unsuccessful period of Flames hockey.
I am just hoping Huberdeau (and Weegar) and whomever else is re-signed will entertain us as much, and hopefully will find more team success here. If not, I also look forward to a rebuild. This is all part of the entertainment experience.
For anyone that is hurt or angry with either one.. "Can one really appreciate the sweetness, if they never taste bitterness?" That's life. When the Flames get around to finding stars again who want to play here and love it here, then we can just appreciate them more. It will happen. Lots of former players - even US citizens - decided to stay here even after their playing career was over. More will again.
All I want to happen is for Treliving to make sure that Huberdeau and Weegar don't walk for nothing in return. Sign them or trade them, but let's not have assets walk for nothing. Whether you want to compete or rebuild, having assets walk out the door stops you from doing either well.

I'm a professor you dip####. I've been teaching science at an undergraduate and graduate level for 7 years now. You may think I'm a fake doctor, but plenty of highly educated professionals have decided that I pass the smell test. I'm not your average chiropractor.
#### you.
Come on Cali, it doesn't take much to be a professor. I've been told that many times by the fart sniffers around here. Google-foo skills are much more important and impressive than proving yourself an expert in a field, earning terminal degrees, and then spending your time imparting your knowledge and expertise to others. Your time in academia is only because you can't cut it in the real world - those who can't do, teach - amiright? /snark
Don't let dip####s like this get you down.

Oh no... A fake doctor that constantly reminds everyone that he's also a "professor" thinks I'm a dip####. Dude, just stop constantly reminding people about your fake phd and your community college professor title. You want to know what I do for a living? You don't, and nobody else does. STFU.
I'd want CPF to teach me. I bet he's great. The kind of prof students would willingly complete their course reviews for and in timely fashion, just to give props.

I'm over it, but I need to say this.
I have enough money now for myself and my children to live comfortably.
What I'm trying to do now is educate a generation of young adults to hopefully make the changes in the world that my generation could not. That's my mission statement.
If someone wants to call me a fake doctor without knowing me or what I do...cool. I'll live. I sometimes just get a little defensive knowing how much effort I put into what I do, purely for an altruistic goal.

I have to ask you this:
If I met you in real life, would you talk this way to me? I suspect not, which makes you a coward.
On the ignore list you go. Well-earned.

Anyway, people need to stop worrying about JG and his decision and talking about how he did some nefarious thing to the Flames. The guy did what he wanted to do, and he did not owe the Flames a god damned thing. You don't need to be a real doctor to see that.

For the next 1-2 years there is no contest, but beyond that? I won't be the least bit surprised if CBJ outperforms CGY over Gaudreau's 8 yr term.

Considering I post about once every two years, until something stupid like this comes up, you're wasting your time. But I appreciate knowing that I've put such a bee under your bonnet, fake doctor.

Just be glad I'm no longer a mod as "Fake Doctor" would look really funny above your avatar.
Just as "Crying Wiener" would look awesome on mine.
