You know, since people were on about Klingberg here, maybe it's not bad. Let him go and play there until the TDL and then if Calgary needs him, pick him up then.

Hey Kadri,
Calgary likes you. We won’t even make you sign a pitiful one-year contract like Klingberg.
C’mon!

Only winning team this might have made sense for was the Bruins depending on their LTIR projections. Wouldn't be surprised if he ends up there as a rental, anyways.

If he wasn't getting the offers he wanted on a multi-year deal, might as well cash in on a one-year and pad his stats on a bottom-feeder. No matter how bad a team is, someone will still score points for them.
If his numbers dip, he has the excuse that he was playing for a bottom-feeder and didn't have the supporting players.

Sure, I get that the offers weren't rolling in (hi Kadri) but as for excuses in his next contract, I'm not sure how far that will fly. Taylor Hall took a $2M pay cut on that gamble. And it turns out that it is about what he's worth (at best).

Damn. Great signing for the Ducks. Would have lived a signing like that for the Flames. The deadline flip should be a good return.

Not at all. He will pull in a haul at the deadline. It’s a no brainer for Anaheim.

but does he make them slightly better and hurt their pick
seems odd all around to me
There is a good chance they are close enough to a playoff spot they don't move him

Buying a 1st and something more at the deadline. Not a dumb play.

Based on what? They missed by over 20 points last season.
This is them buying some draft picks at the deadline. Even if they were close to a playoff spot I still bet they would sell.

At that price/term, surprised that the Stars didn’t get him to stay.

I guess all the Stars cap space is being reserved for Oettinger and Robertson

I would as I don't see the Bruins as a playoff team this year.

He wanted close to 8 per year on a long term deal with the Stars.
Obviously he will want to pick his team for a playoff run in 8 months, then pick another team for a long term contract in 11 months. A top pair defenseman at the deadline will go for a mint, look at Chairot this year.

Pretty sure the deal was sealed with getting into the Disney Parks an hour early.

Honestly it’s because of Ducktales
Duckberg is the fictional city and because of that guys like Silfverberg and Klingberg just feel right as Ducks.
Also I think this is a mistake. Klingberg is 30 in a couple weeks and will be playing on a mediocre team. Even if his best offer with term was like $5.5M over 5 years he still should have taken that.

I know you mean $2M AAV, but he's lost way more than that. Rumours had him with offers in the $56-64M (over 8) range from NJD/ARI.
He's managed $32M/5. He'd need a 3x8M at age 34 to sniff that bottom range.

I don't think ANA is still in bottom out mood. They just aren't in acceleration mode yet. They've also signed Strome and Vatrano this year...I think they hope to compete, but understand it may take a couple more years.

Gross overpayment. Not worth that cap hit.
