Hanifin - Andersson
Zadarov - Weegar
Kylington - Tanev

That’s pretty much a perfect trio of pairs. Weegar, Tanev, Hanifin, Andersson, and Zadarov will all get more minutes through PK and PP but these three pairs allow Darryl to put out any pair at any time.

When you need to boil it down to 2 pairs, you do it. But you don't have to put all your eggs in the 2 baskets for the regular season.

I’m also thinking Valimaki is going to come into camp ready to steal a job - so our 1-7 is going to be outstanding.

Hope you're right, but I am not expecting that at all. He was disappointing with the Heat last year.

I just don't know why Florida would give us Weegar in that trade... it's a steal much like Hanifin was. I think Toews in Colorado is an amazing under rated (as compared to Makar) Dman, just try carrying the puck in against him - over and over again he stole the puck off of Edmonton in that 3rd round series, it's why they contained the Oilers so easily... my point is, Weegar plays much the same way as Toews does and these under rated guys are why you win championships and they don't require 9+ million to sign them.

Oh.... one more point... Last year Gudbranson was good in the corner and over powering our opponents and getting the puck out and moving it in the right direction, much like all our last year Dman were, the difference between Weegar (and Toews to continue my comparison) is that they break up the play and don't allow the opposition to carry the puck into the zone to begin with... watch the plays by these two players, they prevent the need to over powering our opponents and takes the pressure off.... Our D is greatly improved over last year, Sutter must be super happy about this trade as far as our defense is concerned.

I’m honestly surprised Stone isn’t being paid somewhere. To my eye he’s a very good defenseman and I don’t think I’ve ever had a problem with his play. I don’t see why he can’t be making money somewhere in the NHL unless he doesn’t want to for some reason.

I’d be happy to keep him with the team as the #7. That spot can be wasted on a prospect sometimes if they’re not playing much. Honestly I personally think it’s wasted on Stone too, but if he’s okay with it I’ll take it for sure.

The guy seems to have the work life balance thing down. I’m assuming he’s happy because everything you said about being paid more elsewhere is true.

I just noticed that Nicolas Meloche played 50 NHL games last year for the Sharks.

Hmmm, looks like a Stone replacement doesn't he?

Mackey and Valimaki are going to have a tough time making this roster.

If the Flames weren't re-signing Stone, I feel like he would've signed elsewhere already.


I think he's just waiting until the Flames have made all of their off-season moves before re-signing, like last year.

Like Valimaki, many teams have former 1st rounders that haven't made it yet and need to clear waivers.
Gabe Vilardi, Klim Kostin, Kieffer Bellows, Lias Andersson, Cody Glass, Liam Foudy, Vitaly Kravtsov to name a few. Might be a good trading partner among these teams

Vilardi or Andersson could make sense. Kings have too many forwards (especially now with Fiala) but LHD depth is a little weak.

I’ve always liked Kostin, he’s a beast. I keep expecting him to pop. Not a lot of space in the lineup in St. Louis.

It’s actually pretty unbelievable how he can step in (to playoff speed hockey no less) and not miss a step.

Guy is a valuable team member for sure. No doubt the players love having him around. I’d be happy giving him a steady million to stick.

I think Anderson Kylington would be scary. Anderson isn’t the best skater and not always stay at home. Kylington has a penchant for falling down out of nowhere.

Both of them need a stay at home partner.

Kylington doesn't "fall down out of nowhere". He has some big errors, but that's not one of them. He needs to be stronger on his skates, and needs to not fan on passes.

But he may be a perfect partner for a guy who's not the best skater. and Andersson's defensive game has really improved. He was arguably the 2nd best defensive Dman on the team.

The guy had a random fall in every playoff game I saw.

I think overall he had a good year. Just has to settle in - the happy feet got to him a bunch.
