24 and living in Florida making $9.5mil/yr… his play is definitely going to drop off. As well I don’t really think he’s captain material. Matt is all about Matt.

I think honesty is the best policy but I've not been in his shoes and had twitter followers, fans wearing my name on the back of their jersey, etc.
Very solid rational; As fans sometimes we pick apart every little intention and are guilty of spreading gossip and rumours. Dispite that we still like to pick apart the normal decisions hockey players make. I would be the first to tell you I have left a job for all the wrong reasons, I am sure I am not the only one. Johnny made a decision to support his new wife, she is going to love him for it. That's all that matters. Could he have handled things better? Absolutely. Would he do things a little bit differently if he had to do them again? I bet he would. We just have to wish them the best and thank him for giving us some great years.

There was an obvious problem with Tkachuk. The fact they kept Tkachuk in a leadership role and moved out Giordano, seems to show to me that at least some players were taking Tkachuk's side.

I don't think any of us will ever know what was actually happening. There certainly doesn't seem to be all that much love lost with the players who've left from that core.

Giordano got into a full on brawl with the Flames when he came back into town. Now Gaudreau and Tkachuk don't seem to be reaching out to former teammates or vice versa.

I can hold two things in my head at once.

We absolutely won that deal, given that he demanded a trade within a year, signed players or not, we got a year of a better player for a guy who was only going to stay for 1 more year, plus plus plus.

But if we re-sign the players we won it flat out as a hockey deal, we got the best player, we got a top four dman, we got the prospect, we moved up in the draft, win, win, win, win. So I am happy with the trade, and glad to see the new guys here.

While at the same time, I am completely satisfied to resent a player who lived here for 6 years and should personally know how awesome the Flames are for not knowing how awesome they are. For that crime I'm mad at him and you can't convince me otherwise. At least with Gaudreau, I can believe that he understood the awesomeness of the Flames, and truly had family ties pulling him back to the NE US, but Tkachuck just didn't like us.

But, now that the real Johnny hockey is ready to stand up, we can all move on, and just harbour that silent resentment that comes from rejection silently.

Really? Seems like a ton of extrapolation with minimal data. Giordano got moved because of the expansion draft, don’t think any sides were taken… in any case that would be an absolute baseless guess.

You have no idea who they’ve reached out to, what their relationship status is with other teammates, or anything else. One statement you said is factually correct: “I don’t think any of us will ever know what was actually happening”

I apologize for feeding into the politics.

I think Huberdeau's presence will Trump Tkachuk's in the dressing room. Especially if he re-signs, which I think will happen. Tre is just Biden more time.

There were a few segments on Sportsnet through last season about the Swedish Mafia and Ryan Leslie joked to one of them, asking how he could get invited to dinner with them because it was such an exclusive group. Made me wonder if that clique is an issue on the team as it sounded like Lindholm, Markstrom, Ras, Kylington and Backlund did their own thing on the road away from the rest of the team. I'm probably thinking too much of it though.

ALL teams have groups of guys like that. Having different groups of buddies does not cause rifts or problems - having guys that hate each other causes problems.

Yeah I think you're right. Just made me think when I heard about it.

Yeah, considering there’s 23 players on an active roster there’s going to be a couple groups.

I've been on many hockey teams (and soccer teams) that have just groups of guys that all grew up together in the same town, or just were buddies regardless, that just hung out with one another. They did everything together, but if they get along with everyone else and joke and tell stories, it's never an issue.

If they're #######s to their teammates, then it becomes an issue.
