Lol... Thank goodness for Gaudreau that CBJ signed Laine, becuase if they lost him, who was going finish for him... I think you may be right, but I hope your latter prediction is wrong.

I disagree, I think Huberdeau does. He will get the same PP time but will also get 1st line time with much better linemates.

Anything is possible but I would bet against it. It may take some time for him to acclimate with all new linemates and special teams units. This last season much like the one before is a bit of a unicorn season and it wouldn't be surprising if scoring drops back to pre-COVID levels.

Depends if he was already getting the tough matchups or the was the Barkov line on any given night.
Let’s just hope there is some instant chemistry

Agreed. Florida scored an insane amount of goals last year. 25 more goals than the Leafs who scored the 2nd most, 47 more than the Flames. The previous high in the 'salary cap' era (since 2004) by a team was 319 by Tampa in 18-19, Florida scored 340 last year.

He also needs to get fit at altitude. I think that was an issue for Toffoli.

Sutter's even talked about how he's had to evolve because the game had evolved. He's not some stubborn coach who refuses to adapt. He said specifically he's changed 3 times. Guy has forgotten more about the topic of hockey than we know.

Except for Iggy's when Flames could've sent him to Boston but let him choose Pittsburgh and the inferior return. Though looking at both of those in hindsight, neither were great..

100% -- one thing that became glaringly obvious to me last season is that Sutter is still a student of the game.
At the drop of a hat, he can rattle off targets and needs from different areas of the ice: goals from defensemen, etc. -- he seems to come at things with a very calculated perspective.
It's not like the guy isn't watching or paying attention to the modern game. His stated reason for wanting to come to the Flames was that he watched how they played and didn't like what he saw.

On Columbus? Yeah right.
Tkachuk puts up 70-80.
Gaudreau and Huberdeau ~90

If Huberdeau remains in a contract year will have the best year of the three.

Huberdeau is going from being centred by Sam Bennett to being centred by Elias Lindholm. Having had both of those players on our team, I am quite confident that this is an upgrade.

I have no interest seeing Huberdeau play for a contract, as chances are the next one won't be with us in that scenario.
I'd rather a 90 point season with a new contract than a 100+ point "contract year" season.

I really don't think he hits the ice without a contract

We had 4 scenarios before this all started:
1) Keep Gaudreau and Tkachuk
2) Keep Gaudreau
3) Keep Tkachuk
4) Lose both
My preferences before everything was 1=4>3>2. The uncertainty around who we could get kept me from rating option 4 as the best. But given the return Tre got for Tkachuk, it's been the best outcome from my perspective.
