I'm not entirely sure how to rank the Russians, whether current geopolitical events will impact their availability down the road.

I would think it makes Russians more likely to play in North America than with a strong Russia and the KHL thriving.

I'm thinking military conscription, and if there's a crackdown on loopholes.

Mackey is going to be 26 at the start of training camp.

While that may qualify as a prospect for the purposes of this poll, I cant vote for him over other guys with 5-7 more years of runway until they even get to the stage Mackey is currently at.

He's bordering on "non prospect" status if he doesnt make the big club full time out of camp.

This logic is what made many give up on Kylington before last season.

I believe in Valimaki's drive to succeed. He wants to be a difference maker and at one point was proving he had the talent to back it up.

I know he lost a year of development due to injury but I still have faith in him.

Kerins productions and long looks from the world juniors teams makes him the obvious choice for me here

Mackey I think is our number 7 next year so he’s a fine choice. I think Sutter just prefers him to Valimaki

I don't think Valimaki plays another game in the organization.

Giordano didnt play a full season til he was 25 either. He clearly had a ton of upside still.

Some guys just take longer, particularly dmen.

Lets hope Mackey is one of those guys. I think there is something pretty good there, but who knows?

Mackey this round. Could have gone with Poirier as well. High Floor vs high potential debate.

Im not, but the reality is that he has not progressed at all and actually looks to have taken a step backwards.

Doesn't mean he wont find his stride again, but his leash is shorter than others because of the lack of improvement.

Also, there is a plethora of NHL level dmen ahead of him at this point.

One would assume a deal is forthcoming to even out the balance of D/F on the team, and Valimaki could be a part of that.

Personally I think there is a bigger deal to be made and Kylington is moved which opens up a path for JV and others.

The late pick thing is mostly a non-factor. Players couldn't be scouted properly in that year due to COVID. He also lost an entire year of play time due to COVID as well. He's a legit top prospect.

I don't think Valimaki is well liked by Sutter. I've said for more than a year that I figured he's trade bait.

I went with Mackey, as he's the most NHL ready of the remaining prospects. About Kerins, it's common for 19 year olds to put up numbers in junior, but not so common for those players to put up 118 points on a team where the next highest scorer had 39 points less than said player.
