Instead of putting money towards damages and reconciliation, how much has been spent on this trip? Just so this old decrepit fool can blather on without addressing the true disgusting nature of the church that has victimized hundreds of thousands.
Incredibly disappointing to see that crowd of people thinking they are in the presence of something magical and divine.

The pope should give all the gold and land that the church owns to their victims.

The government of Alberta spent $20 million. Not as bad as it sounds as lots was infrastructure. Feds spending $35 million. Edmonton catholic church fundraising $18 million.
Yay. We all get to pay for this. (Except the actual catholic church, that is).

If the Vatican gave away all of its wealth to victims of Residential Schools, there'd be nothing left to compensate all the other millions of victims of the Catholic Church from other countries around the world...

Indigenous leaders asked him to come when they visited Rome. Obviously him coming to Canada meant something to them, so why would that be disappointing to you?

I talked to the Reeve of LSA two weeks ago about their situation. Up to that point they have had to put in 2.6 million dollars of their budget into this trip. That's 10% of their entire municipal budget. And it is expected that they probably were gonna have to pony up another million or so.
Neither the feds nor the province or the church were indicating they would get any relief for this.
What a sham of a show by the church.

I imagine the 40k visitors who make the Lac Ste Anne pilgrimage every year bring significant income to the district. Though the Church should have ponied up for some of the costs of this visit.

So did the pope agree to release all records, or is this just a smile and wave tour?

There was litte beneft to the business community, because everything had to be shut down for security. Campgrounds were shut down, highway traffic shutdown. Businesses were shutdown for the day.
It was a total blackout in the area for anything that wasn't official pope business.
Edit: AND add in the fact that the County was never consulted on this, they were just told. There was no input or choice. Church does as the church wants.

Are those pictures before he came out though? I mean, even the middle, front seats are mostly empty.

There was problems with security to get in. No bags, pack sacks etc were allowed. Only a clear plastic bag. And apparently problems with getting to the facility as well. Not sure how full it was after though.

No, I captured it from the live stream, it was after he had spoke a bit, maybe 5 minutes in. It didn't get fuller.

They gave out 65,000 free seats but only 40,000 were filled. The commentator said the free-seat recipients were probably too overwhelmed to make the trip.

Apparently all tickets were digital and many seniors never had smart phones to download and use them.

I'm not Catholic, or even religious, but I can't imagine wanting to attend this mass with the context hanging over the event.

I saw one report that they had overflow seating set up at Clarke Stadium next door, and they eventually let all of those people into Commonwealth once it became clear how many no-shows there were going to be.
One thing I was wondering is how many people signed up for the free tickets with no intention of actually showing up as a protest?
