You know the thread has jumped the shark when an established all star’s skating is up for comment.
They aren’t being drafted. Their NHL results are proven and spectacular, not just good. Everything else is wiener roasting.

So Panthers will for sure be a lottery team in 2025, are there any “Bedards” For that year yet?

Horse hockey you jerkface!
Also I too dont throw out childish insults, I prefer antique insults. Something with some age has some gravitas.

Absolutely incredible trade by Treliving, especially considering the situation he was in.
IMO, Huberdeau is better than Tkachuk, straight up. And LOL on him being a terrible skater.
And Weegar is a great add - if the trade had been Weegar, Schwindt and a 1st, I would have thought: meh, not a great return for Tkachuk, but what can you expect when a player demands a trade. Huberdeau straight up for Tkachuk? That would have been interesting - the age difference is a big factor, but as I said, I think Huberdeau is the better player.
But BOTH those returns together? How was this trade even possible?
Get them signed, or flip them. Either way, the haul is tremendous. And this trade has COMPLETELY rejuvenated the organization.
Slow clap, Mr Treliving.

I'll be honest, a week ago, I had zero interest in talking about the Flames. Only reason I came here was the CPHL. The offseason, to that point, was extremely dull and I felt this team had no future as it was then constructed.
Can't believe how quickly that changed. Really can't emphasize enough how incredible a trade this was.
The quibbles about aspects of Huberdeau's game — I feel like the Flames could have Cale Makar and there would still be people criticizing his lack of size or "risky" play. Good grief.

Yup. The guy just set the NHL record for most assists by a LW. I'm sure he plays the game pretty well.

Panthers have traded their 2022-2025 1st round picks based on conditions.
Buffalo got their 2022 1st which meant Canadiens get their 2023 first. These were set when they made the playoffs last season (resulting in their pick not being top 10).
Flyers have their 2024 first, but it's deferred to 2025 if the pick is top 10 in 2024.
So the Flames likely have two avenues to receive an unprotected 2026. If the Panthers miss the playoffs during the 2023-2024 season and end up with a top 10 pick (Flyers then getting the 2025 1st). Or if the Panthers miss the playoffs during the 2024-2025 season and up with a top 10 pick (unconfirmed exactly what lottery protection means).

It’s weird seeing people bashing Hubredeau’s skating in this thread. The dude’s an elite playmaker, who cares if he isn’t super fast? He obviously makes up for it with his hands/IQ/vision. Similar to how Tkachuk does, although Hubby is definitely the better skater of the two

Some people are very committed to their vocal opinions that the team is a disaster, it’s BTs fault and we’re doomed for infinite failure. They’d rather be right about that then actually enjoy the fact we got amazing return for Chucky, Huberdeau’s skating is just collateral damage in that thought process.

It's a haul and worth a serious applause IF he's able to retain these assets long term. Florida was willing to part with them in this deal because of their value as pending UFAs that are due big raises - raises they may simply not be able to afford. Luckily the Flames can afford these raises given the recent events. If the Flames end up in another 11th hour stand off next year it is still a bungled mess.
The whole "trade them at the deadline if they won't sign" mantra isn't going to be a thing because the Flames are going to be in the playoffs now, or too close to be ditching assets (as they almost always are). Treliving needs to talk extension with both as soon as both players have wrapped their heads around the move and get it out of the way to avoid any further problems.
